Featured Work: Honolulu church of Christ, Hawaii

Editor’s note: Tagiilima Esene has written a great piece on congregational evangelism. For the body is not one member, but many! The Honolulu church of Christ has had almost 50 baptisms in the past two years due to evangelism! I pray his words will help you further develop the One Mission at your local congregation.

Evangelism Is The Work of Many
Tagiilima Esene (regional trainer)

We have a new brother in Christ! Isaac Pineda found us on Google while searching for a church to attend. Our team of greeters met Isaac on the day he visited with us with smiles and warm welcomes. This made Isaac feel welcomed; we know this because Lima asked him how he felt the first time he walked in our doors. He signed our contacts book at the entrance of the auditorium. He also received a lei from our lei ministry. Several of our members are behind the scenes making leis for our visitors.

After his first visit, Isaac received several cards from our card ministry. Other church members focus on writing cards to our visitors, thanking them for their visit. After two Sundays of attending and meeting more of our church family, we offered Isaac a meal invitation. The meal was scheduled at Liliha Bakery. Susan and her family provide the meals at Liliha Bakery for our prospecting process. Lima (our preacher) and Tony (intern youth minister) had lunch with Isaac. We can schedule a personal Bible study for every lunch appointment with people most of the time. This lunch was different. Isaac, at the time, was not interested in the Bible study. He appreciated that we had just eaten with him and listened to his story.

On Sunday of that week, we had a church event. Our youth boys, who are Christians, led us in our worship service. Isaac was present and was inspired by the young man and their example in faithfulness. On that day, we also announced that there would be a New Convert Class starting soon. Isaac wanted to sign up for the class and asked Lima about it. Lima told Isaac, “The new converts’ class is for people who recently obeyed the gospel of Christ. Have you obeyed the gospel of Christ?” The look on his face communicated to Lima that he did not know what “obeying the gospel” meant. So, Lima offered the invitation to study again, and Isaac accepted it.

Ren (one of our elders), Tony, and Lima studied with Isaac from Monday to Wednesday using Back to the Bible. After learning the Truth, Isaac immediately wanted to obey the gospel. Evangelism is the work of many, not one. The church is not one person. Remember that we can and should work together to win souls to Christ. Praise God for Isaac’s tender heart. Please continue to pray for us!

Congregational Reports

Welcome Petersville church of Christ, Florence, Alabama: We welcome the Petersville church of Christ to the House to House/Heart to Heart School of Evangelism. The congregation is already well-loved in their community and is full of contacts. Please pray for them as they implement the HTHSOE model.

Heritage Christian University: It was a blessing to spend two full days training the students and local Christians at HCU. All training was live-streamed, which received over one thousand views. We consistently work with ten brotherhood schools to train a new generation of soul winners. We are grateful for the cooperation of these great works.

Glencoe church of Christ, Alabama: David Marker (elder) reports, “Evangelism is not reserved for the eloquent; it is for the willing. A simple invitation, a genuine smile, and a sincere heart will help lead someone to Christ! Our newest members are stepping up to help with the various ongoing efforts.  We celebrate every soul won for the kingdom as we collaborate, teach, and encourage one another.

Our Progress Board has been invaluable in monitoring our progress, and our numbers are on an upward trajectory. We have some ongoing studies and several hot contacts, and we pray that encouraging the contacts will lead to more studies. We are beginning to make plans for our VBS and will begin advertising as we reach out to the community.”

Chase Park church of Christ, Huntsville, Alabama: Pat Cowden (preacher) reports, “In the last five weeks, we have had four baptisms at Chase Park, the latest of which were Weston Adams and Pat Newsom. Weston is the teenage son of John and Deborah Adams, two of our members at Chase Park. Pat is the sister of Jamie Elkins, who is also a Chase Park member. We have had several visitors from the community in recent weeks and are sending them cards and inviting them to eat out (always eat). Members of our congregation are currently conducting at least five ongoing studies. We are excited about the present and the future. We appreciate all prayers as we share the gospel with our local community in East Huntsville.”

Hatton church of Christ, Alabama: Chris Miller (preacher) reports, “We had a tremendous turnout this week from people writing compassion cards. This month is somewhat unique for us in that we have several hot prospects to visit before next month’s mission meeting, but we also plan to visit an additional group whose needs must be addressed now.  We are extremely hopeful several of these will result in studies.”

Central church of Christ, Saraland, Alabama: David Dixon (preacher) reports, “We have divided the whole congregation into three teams to write compassion cards. One team will meet each Sunday after morning services to sign cards for that week. We kicked this procedure off this Sunday. I think the format of how we are using these teams will work well. That team shouldn’t take more than 30 minutes a week to get the cards signed and ready to go. Once we have done this for a couple of months, I suspect it will become almost second nature to most people.

“Sunday evening, a young lady walked to our services from down the street and said she wanted to be saved! About two months ago, we assisted this young lady in finding lodging and getting her some help. Her name is Kaylyn Stringfellow. She is in her early twenties. We had provided her with some materials when we first helped her (before we hosted the seminar, by the way), and apparently, she had been studying them. We could talk a little bit before services began, and it was easy to see she would not be put off. She wanted to do whatever she needed to be saved and start a new life with God (those were her words). I spent extra time on the plan of salvation during the lesson and during the invitation song, she came forward. We talked a little bit, and I couldn’t see a reason not to baptize her then and there. So that’s what we did! She is a supreme novice, but she is willing to learn! Pray for Kaylyn in her new life with God! I will text some pictures of her baptism. If all goes as it should, I fully expect to have two more baptisms this week. We are concluding our study of Back to the Bible with Dalton and Mallory, and they are ready!”

West Huntsville church of Christ, Alabama: Paul Owen (associate preacher) reports, “Saturday was our first door-knocking for the West Huntsville congregation. Eight teams knocked on 250 doors in three neighborhoods. We set up two Bible studies and have several good prospects for compassion cards. We also trained the congregation about our visitor teams, which will start May 5. We currently have five Bible studies ongoing.”

Rison church of Christ, Arkansas: Keden Shrum (preacher) reports, “We continue sending cards each week. Care Team B met Sunday evening and signed cards for four people. We had a visitor this past Wednesday, and one of the deacons and his wife went through Book 1 of BTTB with her.”

Sunset church of Christ, Nashville, Arkansas (remote): Zach Williams (preacher) reports, “Dannon recently visited with us. He was searching for truth. We provided him a visitor’s gift bag and took him out to eat.  The congregation sent compassion cards to him. Shortly thereafter, we began a Bible study using Back to the Bible. We are thankful to report that he has been baptized into Christ. God is good!”

Lake City church of Christ, Florida: Jim Flegert (elder) reports, “Our compassion card writers for the week had the privilege to write to six of our potential prospects. One of our elderly couples who live in a retirement community is hosting a weekly Bible study in their community center. The husband is one of our deacons and conducts the Bible study with nine of his neighbors.”

Niceville church of Christ, Florida: Joe Palmer (preacher) reports, “We had a great week with our evangelism program ramping up. We mailed 25 cards and studied with six people in four studies. We have launched our new movers’ program. We took two visitors out for a meal Sunday and have relationships growing with prospects.”

Carrollton church of Christ, Georgia: Danny Spain (member) reports, “Dave has been preaching a lot on evangelism lately. Yesterday, Joe addressed the congregation after service and reinforced and encouraged us to be active in evangelism. Dave showed a map of all the mission areas we support and the local works. We have three active Bible studies; I have two prospects for a study. Fifty-four compassion cards have been sent over the last week. We had at least six visitors and the largest Bible class yesterday, with 121. We are trying to get more members involved; three additional ones have begun to help.”

Lafayette church of Christ, Georgia: Jesse Teague (deacon) reports, “We had new-movers door knocking on Saturday– always good to visit the new movers!  We also did some follow-up visits to warm up some cool contacts. Even better, last Thursday, the wife of one of our new members finished study three and decided to put on our Lord in baptism.   She is such a good lady; we are blessed to have this family at Lafayette.”

Woodstock church of Christ, Georgia: Greg Garner (deacon) reports, “During our ACTS (Actively Caring Teaching & Serving) Evangelism Program, we collected two contact cards this week. The New Movers Group delivered three baskets and placed four door hangers this week. The Door Knocking Group had 11 volunteers to knock on doors this past Saturday. Seventy-one doors were knocked from the HTH list, and four were added to the follow-up list. The Compassion Card Group created 25 cards and will send 13 cards this week and 12 next week. The Greeter Group reported that WCOC had six visitors this week. We had two Bible studies.”

New Hope Road church of Christ, Dacula, Georgia (remote): Charles Harris (regional trainer) reports, “Sunday we announced that April 21 will be our starting date for putting the HTHSOE Model into practice. William will preach the sermon, Make It Operational. Everyone will receive an HTHSOE Training Card and Bookmark. The Evangelism Table will be set up. Our visitor team and bags will be set up in the following weeks, and the HTHSOE Bookmark will be discussed each week. The lessons Quantity, Not Quality and Jesus: The Politically Incorrect Evangelist will be presented. After each lesson, the HTHSOE Bookmark will be discussed.”

Beloit church of Christ, Kansas (remote): Dustin Dougherty (regional trainer) reports, “We had a good worship service on Sunday. Two visitors were with us. We had a Bible study starting with Book 1 of BTTB last Monday night, and we are getting ready to do Book 2 this evening. Last Monday’s study went fairly well; we reviewed some of the things she already knew, and she also learned some new things from the Bible. One of the other men also began a study with a young couple earlier in the week. They had their first study, and he said it went fairly well. I will speak again this week for the Marysville, Kansas, congregation. I am looking forward to meeting with the brothers and sisters there. I hope to go back this summer and provide some training in evangelism. We continue personal evangelism studies in our midweek Bible study class, and our members are getting a lot out of it. We are on a good trajectory to see results in the near future. At the moment, we have around eight members who are dealing with cancer or cancer-related illnesses or issues. We appreciate all prayers for those dealing with cancer. To God be all the honor and glory forever.”

Central church of Christ, Paducah, Kentucky: Adam Faughn (preacher) reports, “We were glad to see so many guests on Sunday, and more than one was taken out for lunch so folks could get to know them better.  A single young man was here for the second time due to our new mover baskets and cards, and he went out to eat with one of our couples. He seems very interested in learning more. We sent about 100 evangelistic cards this week and switched to gathering contact names in our Bible classes. We hope this helps us get more specific information on reaching out through cards and other ways. We could not start a Bible study we had planned, but the prospects were at services for the first time. We are praying that the study gets rescheduled and started very soon. They seemed very pleased with being present, and we are praying the door of opportunity is truly open. Good things are happening in and around Paducah; to God be the glory!”

La Plata church of Christ, Maryland (remote): Eric Sykes (regional trainer) reports, “We’re just trying to make a difference here in La Plata. By the grace of God, we have a new brother in Christ, Darren Marco. Darren is the son of one of our deacons, John Marco. He finished studying Back to the Bible and was baptized by his dad last week. We sent out 16 compassion cards and had six visitors this week. We visited six people on our compassion card list last week. We have nine open Bible studies; we had six people in our New Converts Bible study classes last week. We are assigning and training our first group of area coordinators this week. We appreciate all prayers as we continue to strive to implement the congregational evangelism model here at the La Plata church of Christ.”

Aberdeen church of Christ, Maryland: Will Brown (preacher) reports, “Bible studies lead to more Bible studies. Two members and I are studying with family members who do not know the gospel. We now have four ongoing studies. The challenge has been working around work schedules. Barring a family emergency, the Bible study must be the priority. We are working to make VBS evangelistic. For the past two summers, we have had baptisms from VBS. We made one minor adjustment to our preparation. Before it begins, we will ensure our VBS is advertised in the HTH/HTH. We also geared the adult VBS class to ask to earn a Bible study. Lastly, the accountable board keeps everyone aware of how we are doing with the mission. We appreciate prayers for successful studies. We will never give up. To God be the glory.”

Foristell church of Christ, Missouri: Aaron Baker (preacher) reports, “This week, we are back to making our New Movers visits. If the weather cooperates, we grab the gift bags we made up and the list provided by HTH and hit the road. In two hours, we can reach about eight people in our area. Some of them are home, and we can have some great conversations. Sometimes, nobody is home, and we will have to try again. The goal is not just to meet people but to be a light shining on a hill, pointing toward heaven.

“On Sunday afternoons, we continue to study through the Back to the Bible Supplemental Studies. This week, we completed Book A, which answers, “Is there a God?” It has been a good and encouraging refresher for our members. Just the past week, one of our members was encouraged to ask a patient in their office to study through these supplemental studies with her, and the person agreed. Bible studies are set up by earning the study!

“We are currently conducting two Bible studies. Please pray for Heidi as she studies with two ladies from our congregation. She cares deeply about spiritual matters and has many great questions. For now, we are deferring some of them. Please pray for Dakota and Jennifer; they have just started book two. They were absent from worship on Sunday, but we hope to reach out and study with them this week. Please pray for all our efforts to spread God’s word in our area.”

West End Blvd church of Christ, Cape Girardeau, Missouri: Jared Scaggs (preacher) reports, “This last week, we had two Bible studies that resulted in two new brothers in Christ, Quincy Anderson and Kai Anderson. These two brothers are from the community. We are working on three other Bible studies this week, and we would appreciate prayers for our efforts. We have set up our door and pew greeter groups and are still excited as a whole congregation, which is very encouraging for the preacher and elders. We are planning our VBS and hope to be evangelistically minded and gain new contacts each month. To God be the glory, the Kingdom is alive and expanding its borders.”

West 160 church of Christ, West Plains, Missouri: Marvin Hatley (elder) reports, “Jakob delivered part one of a two-part sermon based on Does It Matter. Our Transition Thursday is planned for this week. Several visits are needed as a follow-up to three weeks of compassion cards being sent to seven prospects. Members have been employing the model to till the soil by acting compassionately with meals and benevolent efforts. One Bible study is planned for Monday night with a prospect who has been studying and recently visited the congregation. Compassion Card Group 3 prepared forty-eight cards to be mailed this week. The congregation continues to encourage the eldership with their desire to participate in personal Bible studies, visits, and acts of benevolence. We appreciate the tools and training that have improved our plan for congregational engagement.”

East Flushing church of Christ, New York (remote): Clarence Jenkins (preacher) reports, “We had a visitor who has been coming to worship services regularly. We also had two second-time visitors whom we have also been prospecting with compassion cards.  A hot prospect who has been coming to worship services consistently went with a member to the shopping mall for a meal last week. Later, that prospect enjoyed watching a basketball game with some brothers from the church, and we are praying to start a Bible study with him this week. We appreciate all prayers.”

Cary church of Christ, North Carolina: Larry Fife (preacher) reports, “The preceding week was wonderful! We penned 42 compassion cards, which brings us to a total of 434 cards for the year. Additionally, we extended warm welcomes to three new families in our community by delivering welcome baskets. A group of ladies from our congregation will visit a lady who has been receiving compassion cards. She has been facing health challenges and is interested in learning about the church. We fervently pray for positive outcomes in this endeavor. Gratefully, we acknowledge God’s abundant blessings He continues to shower upon us.”

Streetsboro church of Christ, Ohio: Ralph Price (preacher) reports, “We have concluded the Bible study with the young couple who live near our building. The study went well. We completed all three Back to the Bible studies with them. They understood everything. They answered all the questions correctly, but they are not yet ready to obey. They are not married and already knew they needed to take care of that. They are concerned that their children might lose their health insurance if they get married. We helped them see that was not a good reason to wait. While they did not choose to obey yet, we are not giving up on them. They now know what needs to be done, and I think they will eventually decide to get married and obey. We are going to keep in touch with them. They enjoyed the studies, so I plan to visit them soon and ask if they would like to go through the Believe the Bible series. Also, the young man likes to golf, so the brother who attended my studies will see if they can get together, since I do not golf. The compassion card program is going strong. Each week we get a few new contacts.”

Greenville church of Christ, Ohio: John McGiffin (preacher) reports, “We continue to prospect prodigal members. People are excited at the prospect of seeing some old friends once again worship with us. Our attendance was down this week. It seems that as the weather changes, so do allergies. Our search for a full-time minister is underway. We require knowledge of the HTH evangelism model. Our ongoing eight Bible studies seem to be finally producing some response. Six of those are grandchildren of a member. It has taken several months of study going through several different materials. Two have indicated they must find a church. They asked, “Does it matter if it is the church of Christ?” This led to the Does it Matter study. They indicated they have to find a biblical church. They want to be baptized and are discussing it. We anticipate they will attend another congregation over one hour away. The member takes one day a month to study with his grandchildren. We have found a sound sister congregation for them to attend. They plan to attend this Sunday. All indications are they will go forward to be baptized at that time. We have utilized different approaches to get these souls to respond. Some people are so ingrained in false doctrine it is difficult to find the best method. We just never gave up. When one concluded, we started a different study.”

New Concord church of Christ, Ohio: Terry Townsend (preacher) reports, “Eighty-six compassion cards are ready to be sent this week.  We will soon deliver eight New Movers baskets. Our Transition Teams have been given a list of new visits to make. One of the new movers’ recipients and another person who had received cards and a follow-up visit worshipped with us for a second straight Sunday. Several other recent visitors worshipped with us again on Sunday. We do not have any new Bible studies, but we pray that soon we will have more studies.”

Coweta church of Christ, Oklahoma: Keno Shrum (regional trainer) reports, “We have had a great week here in Coweta. Friday night, we had dinner and went through Lesson 1 with Kirby. He received the information well. We are doing Lesson 2 with him this coming Friday. This coming Thursday, we have two Bible studies with Clayton and Shy. We will be going through Lesson 1 with both of them. We also have Chris set up tentatively for a Bible study next week. We had three visitors in Sunday morning worship. Sunday evening, we filled out compassion cards. We started mailing them today. We appreciate all prayers and efforts to reach the lost.”

Central church of Christ, McMinnville, Tennessee: Cody Boston (preacher) reports, “We are excited about beginning our work in evangelism. This past Sunday, we handed out the survey to help assign some of the evangelism work. This coming Sunday, I will preach the first sermon from John 4 and hand out the bookmarks to begin gathering contacts.”

Hebron church of Christ, McMinnville, Tennessee: Derrick Stiles (preacher) reports, “Our first week enrolled in the HTHSOE has been very productive. We are happy to report one baptism on Tuesday night and one more Bible study scheduled for Tuesday. Preparation has begun for our evangelism table in the foyer, and it should be completed this week. Compassion card teams have been developed and organization, so this work is underway. The New Convert class with first principles curriculum has been approved by the elders and is ordered. We will begin this class the first Sunday in May. We see positive signs for congregation involvement and look forward to our future at Hebron!”

Gilt Edge church of Christ, Tennessee: Daniel Dalton (preacher) reports, “A husband and wife were baptized about a year ago. They have been growing as all young Christians will. My only initial contact with them was as gun customers. They bought a gun from me, and we had a religious conversation (as I always try to do with customers). Their two daughters were baptized last night. They are young, but I believe they understand. They have come a long way from their Baptist background to get to where they are. They now believe that if they are not baptized, they will not be in heaven because their sins cannot be forgiven without baptism.”

Madison County church of Christ, Jackson, Tennessee: Steven Sprouse (preacher) reports, “We had our third Super Saturday. We practiced Bible studies and evangelistic conversations. We are writing a lot of compassion cards and delivering New Movers baskets. We are also spending time with visitors outside of the church building.”

Rivergate church of Christ, Madison, Tennessee: Doug Tooley (preacher) reports, “I preached Round 3 of the sermons from John 4. One of our elders, Louis Kuykendall, is teaching the nuts-and-bolts class for all adults on implementing the material/actions. I moved people with illnesses from bookmarks to the congregational list. We mailed our first cards last week. We ordered some racks to start setting up a Compassion Card room.”

Hillsboro church of Christ, Tennessee: Chris Sliger (member) reports, “This past Saturday, we knocked doors and met with new movers in our community. Compassion Card Team B met after Sunday’s service to write cards to three contacts. James Moorman continues to study with his coworker, and our Prospect team visits our compassion card contacts.”

East Main church of Christ, Murfreesboro, Tennessee: Brad Rowley (elder) reports, “We rejoice in the baptism of Blakelan Whitaker by his father Chris. Blakelan is one of our youths who studied Back to the Bible with our family and youth minister Avery Bayes. We had a great Mission Day with 55 people present. We are excited to say this is the first month we have given out all the new member baskets and made assigned follow-up visits. Our compassion card team wrote 70 cards. We completed four follow-up visits and four new mover baskets. We have six people in ongoing Bible studies. Our family and youth minister, Seth Ferguson, started a new study with one of our college students. To God be the glory!”

McKenzie church of Christ, Tennessee: Randy McAdams (elder) reports, “We are re-starting our evangelism program as of yesterday, April 14, 2024. We are re-introducing to our congregation what the program is about and going through its methodology in its entirety, just like last year in January 2023. We will rely heavily upon the videos made for each step, showing them each Sunday night before the main service. Where applicable, Chance will give a morning worship sermon on the subject of the video. We are also excited that our attendance numbers continually show a slight increase from the winter months. We have many visitors, but to our fault, we forgot to hand out the visitors’ bags. We have given out to date approximately 80 bags in a year’s time, but we could have easily given out 40 more had we not slacked in this area. We will do better this year.”

Brushy church of Christ, Centerville, Tennessee: Kevin Johnston (preacher) reports, “Today was our Friends and Family Day, and we were delighted to have brother Matt Miller with us. His lessons were very much connected to our evangelism efforts, and he did a tremendous job. We had 147 in attendance, including several visitors and a few we have been trying to reach. The members have done a great job at connecting with many of them, and we pray that we can continue to make connections and ultimately reach souls. We appreciate all prayers as we strive to implement the model.”

Mountain Creek church of Christ, Chattanooga, Tennessee: Michael Tomshack (elder) reports, “Gary Massey (Elder, Minister) completed Book 3 of Back to the Bible lesson series on Sunday. On Sunday evening, we held our quarterly congregational family meeting to review our progress to goals and suggest new goals for the coming quarter. In January 2023, the Elders developed 10-year, 3-year, and 1-year goals, which include baptisms for each time frame, Lord willing. This was our first congregational meeting since fully implementing the House to House School of Evangelism process. Ali Hagemann completed her third Bible study with a young adult friend. Danny and Jennifer Ellis (Keepers Leaders) continue their Bible study with a young couple. Gary Massey (Elder, Minister) held an initial lunch meeting with a guest and has set a meeting to begin a Bible study. We have a young couple (Daniel and Elyse Anderson) who worship with us online from the Netherlands. We first met them in 2021 when they were visiting the US. They found Gary’s lessons/sermon online and wanted to worship with us in person. In 2022, they meet several of us in Israel. This weekend, they revisited us and asked to be part of the compassion card team meeting after worship. That is an awesome endorsement of the process they have viewed remotely, and they wanted to be part of. To God be the glory and His will be done.”

New Union church of Christ, Manchester, Tennessee: Paul Fulks (elder) reports, “We had three new contact cards submitted this past Sunday. We mailed out 45 compassion cards. We made six visits and had one Bible study. We had one in our New Convert class.”

Chapel Hill church of Christ, Tennessee: Matt Jones (deacon) reports, “The congregation has begun to respond with recent requests for contacts. Isaac is still going through his series on worship, which continued this week with our worship through our giving. New movers baskets were delivered, and several I have spoken with had good conversations and experiences. The compassion card teams are still going well. To help remind our writers, the team leaders are sending group text messages to the team members. This has helped to maintain the attendance of our writers. Visitors are still in attendance weekly and are getting warm greetings from our visitor teams. Things are still going well here!”

Covington church of Christ, Tennessee: Wayne Dalrymple (elder) reports, “We are continuing to work the plan. We consistently have several visitors on Sundays. This week, Mark, the father of one of our members, visited us. He is dissatisfied with the denomination he has been attending. We are prospecting with cards and other things. We also had a family that was a member of another congregation in the area but was not attending regularly. They visited with us last year for a few weeks but had stopped for a while. We hope to connect with them, so they have a reason to stay this time.

I called a couple who had visited last week and indicated on their attendance card that they wanted to know more about the church. They will tell me when we can set a meeting soon. We have several ongoing studies. Cody, one of our new members, has been studying with his parents. They are struggling with understanding the distinctiveness of the biblical teaching on the church and salvation. I am encouraging the young man not to give up but to be patient with them. We hope to see fruit from our labors soon.”

Southwest church of Christ, Austin, Texas: John Garza (regional trainer) reports, “We recently switched from Friday morning to Thursday evening regarding new movers and door-knocking. We had much success doing it. We delivered ten out of eighteen bags to those who had just moved into our area, with a few who mentioned they were looking for a new church home. We pray that this work bears fruit, and we want to be ready to welcome them, invest in them, and get personal Bible studies set up. Our students met and talked with nine hot contacts. One is a new mover, so we will deliver a bag this week. Two would like to receive the House-to-House publication, one would like prayers and cards because of personal difficulties, and one would like a personal Bible study (though she would like to read our House to House publication first). The others will need more visits for additional information, but they are receptive. Additionally, we have six ongoing Bible studies that started last Wednesday.  Though one person visited only a few days before, our members spent time getting to know her. It made a huge impression on her and made a path for this opportunity. We have a few potential Bible study prospects. Finally, we are spending much time improving our compassion card ministry as a large congregation and focusing on our new convert ministry.”

Bridgeport church of Christ, Katy, Texas: Doug Suggs (deacon) reports, “At Bridgewater, we had a compassion card team address cards to a young man that Andre contacted, to some of our members who have not attended recently, to visitors, and to a family who recently lost a loved one. A Bible study has been set up for a visitor to our services last week. He was back again this week. Wade and I will be visiting and studying with him soon. Also, we are excited to have a regional instructor, Keno Shrum, from Oklahoma to be with us on April 28. We look forward to his helping us to rejuvenate our evangelism program.”

Shenandoah church of Christ, San Antonio, Texas (remote): Tim Ayers (preacher) reports, “We continue studying through the different parts of the evangelism program. We are also continuing the training in the Back to the Bible books. We will begin Lesson 2 this week. We continue writing compassion cards when we have contacts who need encouragement. We will deliver new movers baskets in the next week or two. We are planning to go door-knocking before the end of May. We are also planning a Friends and Family Sunday in June. The wife of one of our elders has been planning a ladies’ class on Sunday afternoon, and she has been inviting her neighbors who are not Christians. Every Sunday, I have been emphasizing the importance of contacts. Without contacts, the evangelism model will not work. So, we continue to try to change the culture of this congregation. We want to become an evangelism machine! We appreciate all prayers for our efforts.”

Canyon Lake church of Christ, Texas (remote): Raoul Ferris and Jesse Stuart report, “Our efforts to continue to work the evangelism model is paying off. We continue to have visitors each Sunday, and several are from our door-knocking efforts. We currently have two Bible studies ongoing; one study is with seven Spanish speakers. Our elders and congregation have responded by seeking what to do when they obey the gospel. Many in the church and brethren near and far have assisted us in purchasing Bibles and study materials. The other study is going well with an elderly lady who identifies as a Southern Baptist. She calls us regularly to thank us for contacting her and sending her cards. Our elders have taken an active role in studying with our newest convert, Typhani, and finding more members to study with her so that she grows in her faith as she also grows closer to the church family.”

Graceton church of Christ, Diana, Texas: Johnny Williford (elder) reports, “The Graceton congregation continues to labor on with our outreach into the Diana community. Group A will send 49 compassion cards to five new contacts this week. This Friday evening, we will be holding our monthly family game night. But this month, we will have a fishing outing at a member’s home with a hotdog supper and yard games. We hope to have some of our new contacts attend and enjoy the fun. Three families visited with us for Sunday morning services and one individual for evening services. We will have our annual Senior Graduate First Sunday fellowship in a few weeks and invite the two graduating seniors’ extended families to join us for their celebration.”

Wheeler church of Christ, Texas: Garrett English (preacher) reports, “New converts class continues to go well. We plan to give each school senior a copy of Muscle & A Shovel for graduation. I was told about someone who moved in recently and was asking about baptism. I plan to check on them this week.”

Granbury Street church of Christ, Cleburne, Texas: Ryan Cowan (deacon) reports, “This upcoming Saturday, March 20, we have planned for our Mission Saturday. Previously, we held this event on a Monday evening, but we discovered it was inconvenient for some families to participate. Along with a meal provided by the church and plenty of Christian fellowship, we will discuss some principles from Rob’s videos and a chapter from Fishing for Men by Bobby Bates. The day will start with training at 10:30. We will provide lunch, and then split up to visit local families who have received compassion cards.”

Crosby church of Christ, Texas (remote): Jon Wheeler (elder) reports, “One of our recent prospects attended a Ladies Day event and stayed for a luncheon. She will have a baby anytime now, so we will keep in close contact with her. Six compassion cards will be sent out this week. We are excited that a couple has agreed to take over compassion card coordination. They were given the training sheet and video to watch as part of their training. Ten new mover baskets were delivered on Saturday. Some of those contacted did not have a church yet and expressed interest in our church. Follow-up will be made.”

Eight Mile Rock church of Christ, Bahamas (remote): Tavaro Hanna (preacher) reports, “On Sunday I preached the House to House/Heart to Heart contacts sermon by Brother John McGiffin. I entitled that sermon “First Contact” and made some changes to make it my own, but I gave Brother McGiffin credit for his wonderful work. The sermon was well received. We are moving steadily and enjoying HTHSOE.”

NOTE: These reports are from Christians and congregations enrolled in the House to House/Heart to Heart School of Evangelism. These emails are sent to teach and provoke one another to remain focused on the mission of Christ. Each week, we share several reports and highlight one with more details. We hope you enjoy reading them.
