REACHING THE LOST – STRATEGIES FOR SUCCESS

Youth Ministry is a part of the Body (1 Corinthians 12:18). It is a part of the Body with incredible opportunities to create contacts through evangelism. Sadly, many youth programs are about events, retreats, camps, trips, games, and activities with little to no emphasis on soul-winning. Without doubt, our youth have one of the most fertile fields in America. They are largely unchurched, open to learning, and receptive to Truth. We want to introduce a parallel path for a youth group.

  • Encourage youth to develop their contact list using the HTHSOE Neighbor bookmark. Their list can include family, friends, and others they may know through clubs, teams, and extracurricular activities.
  • Create events to help the youth group prospect their contacts through invitations to devotionals, camps, retreats, VBSs, and any other church activities. All events should be focused on bringing the lost so they can be prospected.
  • Prospecting youth can include cards in certain situations, but it should incorporate much more.
  • Every church activity should include Bible study. These studies should be challenging and have meat on the bone. Do not hide who we are and what we believe.
  • Although group evangelism studies are to be avoided with adults, using Believe the Bible or Back to the Bible can be effective with youth.
  • Youth who have questions and show interest should be engaged in a personal study.
  • Teaching the church youth how to use Bible study tools is essential. If they feel comfortable and confident, they will use them.
  • Conduct mock Bible studies during Bible class and insert challenging questions for discussion.
  • Ensure that all young Christians understand their vital role in bringing the lost to Christ. Help them see the opportunities that are unique to them.
  • New teen converts should remain in the youth classes, as these classes should focus on first principles and are essentially new convert classes.

Your input is important. We love feedback as it allows us to further develop, refine, and improve. Reach out with additional ideas and help HTHSOE develop effective and result-driven, soul-winning youth work that faithfully follows the New Testament.
