REACHING THE LOST – STRATEGIES FOR SUCCESS
Baptisms: Spotlighting Conversions
Is there any event in your congregation that produces more joy, movement, and energy than baptisms? One of the biggest challenges to this event is the lack of promotion among the members. Recently we visited the Aberdeen church of Christ in Mississippi, and we learned how they emphasize baptisms. They call it “Spotlighting,” and it does the following three things:
- Brings awareness of the baptism by using social media, texts, and strategic public announcements. This lets the community and congregation know about it.
- Provides associations with members by using an information sheet so those who share similar backgrounds, likes/dislikes, and other demographics can connect.
- Brings attention to the baptism by creating a graphic that introduces the new Christians to the congregation. Send the graphic to the congregation, post it, or place it on your announcement powerpoints. There are several free programs like “Canva” and “PosterMywall” that can create this graphic.
If you would like documents that Jonathan provided to help you do the same, please send an email to Rob@housetohouse.com and I will send them to you. There are a lot of benefits from properly spotlighting baptisms in your local congregation. I hope you will assign a coordinator to ensure the greatest events in the world are not minimized and overlooked.
