Featured Work: Polishing the Pulpit, Branson, MO

Editor’s Note: Polishing the Pulpit is one of the most impactful Kingdom events of the year. It brings thousands of Christians together to focus on spiritual growth. Perhaps no effect is more rewarding than the contacts made and Bible studies conducted. In just a few days, we witnessed the baptisms of two security guards who were working at the Branson Convention Center as well as the baptism of a visitor who had been a Methodist. Dustin Doughtery, a regional trainer for HTHSOE, taught one of the security guards. Sister Lois Webster brought the guard to our attention, and she also assisted in the study.  I hope you will enjoy reading about his conversion.

Polishing the Pulpit Reaches the Saved and the Lost
Written by Dustin Doughtery (Regional Trainer)

Whew, what a great week it has been at Polishing the Pulpit in Branson, Missouri! We had so many great speakers on so many wonderful topics. The fellowship at the PTP conference is almost beyond compare with around 2,070 people in attendance. You can hardly walk from one end to the other without stopping and talking with someone you know or making a new friend. The singing is an amazing sight and sound to behold. So many voices uniting together and singing praises to our Heavenly Father is so encouraging.

This story begins at one of the atrium singings. One of our sisters, Lois Webster, approached one of the convention center security guards, Bob. She asked him if anyone had invited him to the Bring-a-Friend night worship service, and he said no. She asked if he would like to come to Sunday morning services with her, and he said no again, but she was persistent. After two no’s and some more conversation, she asked him if he would be interested in doing a Bible study—and he said yes. The ball was in motion very quickly because it is important to strike while the iron is hot. I received a text that a study needed to occur, so I grabbed a couple of copies of the Does it Matter? and met the guard and Lois so we could begin our Bible study. We started the study on Saturday night at his security desk in the conference center immediately following the nightly singing. He said he really enjoyed the singing. We made it halfway through the book, to a good stopping point, before he had to lock the building down for the night. Arrangements were made to continue the study the following day, Sunday, once he made it to work.

No time was wasted once he arrived. We began the study with prayer and dug into the Book. We had already studied the material up to the topic of dealing with sin, so we moved on to the meat of the study immediately: “What must I do to be saved?” The study quickly became very emotional. The guard voiced his concern several times about how misguided he had been, and how he had thought he was in good standing with God, but he did not know the things we were learning, and he could not deny them. He said he had many close calls in his 75 years of life. We looked at his previous baptism as a baby, and he realized it could not be the One baptism Paul writes of in Ephesians 4:5. He recognized that he had not been baptized in the correct manner, and he needed to make it right. We got to the bottom of page 15 and read Acts 22:16, including the question, “Are you ready to be baptized now?” He answered, “Yes, but how would we make that work?” I said, “If that is your desire, based upon your understanding, then we can make it happen even yet tonight.”
We finished the study, and he said he was ready to be baptized. We sent a message to several individuals to coordinate pool access. Neither Bob nor I had extra clothes, but we would not let that stop this baptism from occurring. He wore wet clothes for the rest of his shift—until midnight—and he said that was his cross to bear, and he was happy to do it rather than waiting until a more opportune time. We gained a brother Sunday night; Bob was added to the Lord’s church (Acts 2:47) for the forgiveness of his sins (Acts 2:38). Afterward he was welcomed into his new church family by so many happy people, and Bob just could not stop smiling. He looked as if a weight had been lifted off of him.

Little did we know at the time that a young Christian man was having a study with another security guard. About an hour and a half after Bob was baptized, Pablo was also immersed into Christ for the forgiveness of sins. Then the following morning, Sara, a young lady from Texas, was also baptized into Christ. The Gospel still works. Christ’s blood still saves, sins can still be remitted, and souls can still be added to the church, when one exhibits that obedient faith and goes down into the water.

Immediately following Bob’s baptism, we worked to coordinate with the local congregation and the preacher here to continue working with Bob post conversion, so Bob would have a mentor. It is so great to be able to practice what we preach and preach what we practice. To God be all glory and honor forever.

Congregational Reports

Glencoe church of Christ, Alabama: Keith Ritchie (evangelist) reports, “Glencoe church of Christ had another Sunday with excellent attendance and a good number of visitors. Making another contact and looking for opportunities to seek and save. Currently we have five Bible studies planned with one being on lesson two. We are also working on our evangelism coordinator areas and making sure we put the right people in the right places. Glencoe’s Evangelistic Ladies Day with Laura Boyd is this Saturday and we look forward to the possibility of making contacts. We are excited at Glencoe for the activities with youth and young adults that could springboard future growth. Please continue to pray for the work here and for our shepherds that oversee the work. To God be the glory!”

Central church of Christ, Saraland, Alabama: David Dixon (preacher) reports, “Polishing the Pulpit in Branson, Missouri, was an uplifting week full of sound lessons and amazing fellowship. The Gospel is so powerful, and evangelism is so intoxicating that there were two baptisms among the employees of the convention center where PTP was held. But even while the preacher was 600 miles away from home, evangelism continued at Central. We had a baptism this Sunday. That puts us at our yearly goal of eight, with five months left in the year. That makes 20 baptisms since last March. This young man is one of our recent high school graduates. Billy Lambert was filling in for me, and he is a former minister for Central. It was a homecoming of sorts, and by all accounts, it was a special day for Central.”

Hartselle church of Christ, Alabama: Justin Smith (preacher) reports, “Our evangelistic culture at Hartselle continues to change. This past Sunday we saw the fruit of what can happen when a simple invitation to church is offered. One of our youth group girls has a neighbor who has been visiting with her for a few months. After some Bible study last week, she decided to put on Christ in baptism. Her entire family was there to witness her decision, and we are working to earn a Bible study with them as well. This marks our tenth baptism of the year, already surpassing our total for all of 2024. Praise God!”

Hatton church of Christ, Town Creek, Alabama: Chris Miller (preacher) reports, “We were blessed with a restoration this week. Rob Herbster came to Hatton for the first time in years and was restored yesterday.  We continue to be prayerful and thankful for the studies underway, and we feel that several more baptisms are very close.”

Creekwood church of Christ, Mobile, Alabama: Tucker Presley (preacher) reports, “We had a highly successful VBS last week! We collected information from about 20 in-town families. We are adding their names to the prospect list to receive cards. In a few weeks, we will visit them. We have others to visit this week that have come off the prospect list as well as some whom we visited earlier and kept in touch with them. We currently have two Bible studies going on right now.”

Highland Park church of Christ, Muscle Shoals, Alabama: Andrew Myham (deacon) reports, “Our congregation had two more Bible studies this week. We also have VBS going this week and are accumulating new contacts!”

Petersville church of Christ, Florence, Alabama: Adam Richardson (preacher) reports, “Petersville had another baptism of one of our young people at Bible camp, bringing us to five baptisms for the year. We finally have a date for our study with one of the families that has been visiting, and they are a promising couple. We are struggling during the summer months with compassion cards and meeting with our coordinators. We will be actively working this week to improve in those areas. For the first time in over a year, we did not send any cards last week, which shows the need to improve.”

Mountain Home church of Christ, Arkansas: Joshua Adams (preacher) reports, “This week, 22 card- writers completed 95 cards to be sent. We have added one more Bible study this week. We have received good feedback from one of our new Christians who likes the combination of the new converts class and the new 40 daily devotional videos. We are thankful for the additional teaching resource!”

Windsor church of Christ, Colorado: Lucas Stephens (member) reports, “We had a great worship opportunity at Windsor this week. Two visitors of family members came this week, and we were able to visit with them and love on them. We sent compassion cards to those on our prospect list, and we will continue to have our weekly meeting this week where we will discuss congregational and personal evangelism.”

Margaret Street church of Christ, Milton, Florida: Troy Spradlin (preacher) reports, “We are rejoicing this week that another precious soul was added to the Lord’s Kingdom! Tucker Davis was baptized into Christ by his earthly father, Chris Davis. We must never forget that the children of our congregation are also prospects who need the Gospel. They are a parent’s “mission field.” We give God all the glory for His Word as it works on the hearts of our young people. Our current 2025 Year-to-Date Accountability Board numbers are: 192 Total Contacts received; 52 Visitors; 131 Neighbors (Prospects whom we have loved and/or studied with); 60 Bible studies (total completed); 1617 Compassion Cards sent; two Restorations, and 14 baptisms.”

Niceville church of Christ, Florida: Joe Palmer (preacher) reports, “I am constantly reminded of the Lord’s words: ‘Do you not say, ‘There are still four months and then comes the harvest’? Behold, I say to you, lift up your eyes, and look at the fields, for they are already white for harvest!’ (John 4:35 NKJV). Unfortunately, most congregations do not operate with this philosophy. Many have given up on growth because it requires evangelism. Evangelism is unique in that the Lord often brings about an opportunity to harvest if we would but open our eyes. This week we finished our VBS. I must say, it was not our biggest VBS, but we had a handful of solid prospects. One family even returned for Sunday morning worship and Bible class, and afterward, I took them to lunch. We made inroads that we hope will lead to a Bible study.  This week on Wednesday, we will have a follow-up meeting. It will not be a normal follow-up meeting because I am going to interrupt the discussion on decorating, themes, and schedule concerns with the most urgent question needed: ‘Who is going to reach out to our visitors?’ We must strike now, and strike fast. Evangelism requires finding contacts, prospecting the contacts, studying with the prospects, and then discipling and nurturing the new Christian. It is labor and time intensive, but if we only making contacts at events like VBS, what good is it? Too many elders, preachers, and members are satisfied with simply finding contacts, and then they slack off and fail to see the harvest in front of them. Jesus also said, ‘The harvest truly is plentiful, but the laborers are few. Therefore pray the Lord of the harvest to send out laborers into His harvest’ (Matthew 9:37–38 NKJV). Churches are failing to grow simply for a lack of people who are actively looking for ripe fruit in front of them. Many are not active in the Lord’s harvesting. We must pray to God for more workers in His glorious Kingdom. This week, we sent out 25 cards. We had one evangelistic study. We had several returning visitors and three new visitors.”

Edgewood church of Christ, Columbus, Georgia: Mitchell Deering (deacon) reports, “The compassion card ministry remains strong, now totaling 415 cards sent for the month of July. We are set to launch our Visitor Contact Program this upcoming Sunday, which will allow us to better engage first-time visitors and connect them with the congregation more effectively. Matt continues to develop the follow-up team as we transition from initial outreach to deeper engagement. We are planning the following next steps: Conduct the two scheduled Bible studies and continue follow-up with visited prospects, launch the Visitor Contact Program and begin tracking engagement, and continue to encourage member participation in evangelistic efforts, both through card writing and in-person outreach.”

Cartersville church of Christ, Georgia (remote): Charles Harris (regional trainer) reports, “We have three baptisms to report this week. The first was with 19-year-old Emely, whom we met through our New Mover work. Because of her influence, we will also begin studying with her mother this week. Emely is a special young lady, and I believe she will be instrumental in leading her family to Jesus. The second baptism was Lamaria. We met her through Facebook. We had scheduled to study BTTB 3 today, but she responded to the invitation Sunday. From previous studies, we knew she was not ready to be baptized. However, with her eagerness in mind, we took her to lunch then went ahead and studied BTTB 3. She gained a better understanding of what she needed to do and was baptized. The third baptism was Rakita. We had studied previously. She has a tender heart; she also had a lot to contemplate. Shortly after evening service began, she came to my wife and me and requested to be baptized. We took her right away and baptized her into Christ. My baptism goal for the entire year was ten. In July, we have baptized 12. The work here continues to grow.”

Woodstock church of Christ, Georgia: Larkin Cook (member) reports, “The WCOC congregation attended the Sunabella of Towne Lake Assistant Living devotional on Sunday. We had seven non-Christian attendees. The HTH Door Knocking Campaign had four groups of volunteers knocking on 53 doors. Of those 53 doors, 15 contacts were made, and three will be added to the follow-up list. The Compassion Cards Group sent six compassion cards this week. WCOC had eleven non-Christian visitors this Sunday morning. We also had three Bibles studies last week.”

Collinsville-Troy church of Christ, Illinois: Jason Wright (elder) reports, “Our Servants of Souls evangelism hands-on training this Sunday centered around the baptistry. The person who maintains the baptistry talked about maintenance and what it takes to keep the water warm and clean. We also discussed positioning in the tub and safety in and out. Overall, it was very informative and reminded us all of folks who work behind the scenes. We delivered 16 new mover’s baskets and made four follow-up visits resulting in a scheduled study. We mailed 105 compassion cards. This week we will have our monthly coordinator’s meeting. We conducted two personal Bible studies as well. Did I mention evangelism is fun?!”

Lincolnway church of Christ, Columbia City, Indiana: Drew Reece (preacher) reports, “We had another baptism this past week! Easton was added to the Lord’s church after studying and talking with his parents. We have been continuing the curriculum, and we are praying for our contacts on our bookmarks. We are excited to continue implementing the things we are learning.”

Highland Village church of Christ, Bloomington, Indiana: Mark Stauffer (elder) reports, “Highland Village church of Christ has sent 53 compassion cards this month. We currently have four prospects, have made two visits, and have begun a new Bible study. The lady we are studying with has given us two contacts that we will begin prospecting soon. We had two repeat visitors Sunday and have had four different people visit so far this month. Congregational training is ongoing. The emphasis this week was on the importance of prayer for our contacts, prospects, and each other.”

Central church of Christ, Paducah, Kentucky: Adam Faughn (preacher) reports, “The study with Angela this past week went very well, as she went through Book 2 with one of our sisters in Christ. They are scheduled to study Book 3 on Thursday, and we believe there will be harvest very soon thereafter. We are still working on setting up a study time with Marilyn, and she is eager to get started. This week, we have a booth at our county fair and are praying for souls to agree to either correspondence courses or personal Bible studies. This was a big help to our efforts last year, and we are praying that it is again. Good things continue to happen in God’s Kingdom in Paducah!”

Gonzales church of Christ, Louisiana: Patrick Adkins (deacon) reports, “One of our members gave the Sunday morning sermon on invitation cards and inviting cold and warm contacts. Our second service was led by the youth of the congregation, and the sermon was about putting faith to work. The ladies assembled the spaghetti baskets to be delivered, and we signed compassion cards. We have two current prospects (neighbors), and we have visited two others. We have four ongoing Bible studies and one more prospect committed to a study. We continued to have great momentum and are thankful to God for the love of souls at Gonzales.”

Chalmette church of Christ, Louisiana: Scott Russell (member) reports, “We added someone to coordinate our work with the weak and fallen. In addition, we asked someone to head up our visitors’ care. We continued training and developing.”

La Plata church of Christ, Maryland (remote): Eric Sykes (regional trainer) reports, “The members are working hard to reach out to the local community. We had ten visitors this week. We offered to take them out to lunch, but each of them decided to take a rain check. I am certain they will be back. We added four folks to our prospect list this week. We have started two new Bible studies this week. One of the sisters in our ‘advanced teacher training class’ just started a Bible study with two of her granddaughters. Tabetha had to reschedule Lesson 3 of BTTB with her co-worker; we request prayers that they can get together before the end of the week. We currently have nine open Bible studies. We request prayers that we will be able to close a few of those studies soon. We sent out 56 compassion cards this week. We enrolled all of our new converts from the last three years into the new convert video training series titled, ‘Your First 40 Days in the Wilderness.’ We put together ten new movers baskets for our advanced teacher training class to deliver to the community tomorrow. I forgot to mention that our new sister in Christ, Tayloni Ricks, is a result of our compassion card ministry. We appreciate all prayers as we strive to continue training our members and spreading the Gospel message here in La Plata.”

Beltway church of Christ, Maryland: LeAndre Johnson (minister) reports, “We have completed congregational training on Book 1 of Back to the Bible last week, and we have completed preaching sermons for Book 2 of Back to the Bible. We will start preaching the sermons for Lesson 3 of Back to the Bible on Sunday. We have three prospects.”

Jackson church of Christ, Missouri: David Selvig (elder) reports, “Last weekend was a blessing for me and the entire congregation.  We have jumped on board and have started putting the program in effect.  We have assigned several positions to very capable individuals along with the elders and preachers.  Our preaching schedule starts this coming Sunday AM with training during the PM service.  We have done the survey sheets, framed the posters, and are setting up the evangelism table.  We are meeting again this Sunday and plan to continue meeting and putting more and more in effect.  Training has started and souls will be saved!”

Aberdeen church of Christ, Mississippi: Jonathan Hagar (preacher) reports, “We sent 204 compassion cards this past week to five prospects. We posted the prospect list to the bulletin board so all could see it. I had two Bible studies last week, and I have two more lined up for this week. We have been cleaning out the church library to get it ready for the New Converts class, and I have given the book called Growing in Christ to the teachers so they can look over it. I have ordered 20 more to be given to the class participants. We had two visitors this past Sunday, and we gave them our visitor packets. We also made sure they were offered a meal by the members, and they will each receive invitation cards by our card writing team this week. To God be the glory!”

New Concord church of Christ, New Hampshire (remote): Shane Belanger (member) reports, “Greetings from the Concord church of Christ. The studies here have been going great. Just this evening, we finished Book 3 of Back to the Bible with a young lady, and she has decided to be baptized! We are also studying with a man from the Mormon church on Wednesday before our weekly Bible class, and we will be starting Book 2 of Back to the Bible. We are also excited about our many good contacts, and we are looking forward to setting up more studies with these individuals. We are also starting some evangelistic training sessions this Sunday after worship. We have been in touch with a man who has fallen away and are praying that we can help to restore him to the Lord’s church.”

East Flushing church of Christ, New York (remote): Clarence Jenkins (preacher) reports, “We had two visitors last Lord’s day. After worship service, we watched and discussed the video called ‘New Converts: Mentoring’. We then wrote 11 compassion cards. Our metrics thus far for and through the month of July are four baptisms, 11 compassion cards, 18 prospects, two Bible studies, and one in a new convert study. We appreciate all prayers. We are thankful for continuous encouragement.”

New Concord church of Christ, Ohio:  Terry Townsend (preacher) reports, “We have had a couple of positive weeks here at New Concord. I visited a family of six that attended Sunday. I learned that the husband is a member of the church, but he has not attended a church of Christ in years. They have four children; their oldest son recently obeyed the Gospel while visiting his uncle (who is a preacher) in Kentucky. Interestingly enough, I spent some time last week talking to God via prayer about our congregation and the need for more young families with children. No doubt this was an answer to those prayers! Now we have to do our part and encourage them! I have reached out to one of my elders, hoping that he and his wife, as well as others, will follow up with this family. Addendum: We welcome David Morgan to the family of God here at New Concord. He and his wife have been attending for a while and David made decision to obey the Gospel. His wife was baptized years ago. Her name is Lori.”

Alkire Road church of Christ, Grove City, Ohio: Tony Dunnagan (member) reports, “We had six visitors
and currently have five Bible studies. We have three new contacts and one prospect. We will have our first coordinators meeting tonight. Two of our studies are in the second booklet; one study is a follow-up from BTTB, and the rest are in the first study.”

East Sparta church of Christ, Magnolia, Ohio (remote): Andrew Masterson (preacher) reports, “We hit a slow week while I was at Youth Camp for the week. We mailed out 20 compassion cards. We have a few prospects to visit this week. Saturday we will have a booth at a local street fair. Then two weeks later, we will have VBS. We are getting ready for these great opportunities to make new contacts in the community.”

Sullivan Village church of Christ, Lawton, Oklahoma: Steven Hill (preacher) reports, “Sullivan Village experienced God’s increase last Sunday when Cindy Roberts decided to be baptized after having multiple studies. She left a local denomination and became a member of the Lord’s church as she obeyed the Gospel, and the Lord added her to His church. Then this week, we rejoiced again as Francisca Balladares obeyed the Gospel after going through the three Back to the Bible study books. She is coming out of a Catholic family and background. She understands that Catholicism is not biblical and has turned from it; she is now in the Lord’ church following Christ. We have been delivering new movers baskets like gang busters, and our New Convert class continues to grow; it is rewarding. We also had a restoration last week as a long-time member came forward and wanted to repent of being lukewarm. We thank God for the blessings and the increase.”

Owasso church of Christ, Oklahoma: David Combs (elder) reports, “While our ministers are away at PTP getting refreshed and recharged, Jeremiah Schnell, (Dan’s oldest son and a Bear Valley graduate) stepped in. He delivered three EXCELLENT lessons yesterday!! We are extremely blessed to have such a talented speaker delivering God’s word. Following evening services, Team 3 met in the annex to write compassion cards. We have 17 prospects for the week; 241 cards were written (one single card and 16 multiple cards), and we had 21 card writers. We currently have four Bible studies in progress.”

Coweta church of Christ, Oklahoma: Keno Shrum (regional trainer) reports, “A number of our members traveled to Branson, Missouri, for Polishing the Pulpit. All left renewed and encouraged spiritually. Our VBS starts next week. We plan to draw contacts from the effort and start prospecting contacts. We are excited to have some of the youth from the Hatton church of Christ in Alabama to help us with VBS! I will be traveling this weekend to Northern Oaks church of Christ in San Antonio, Texas, for a Refresh and Continued Education training. Congregations that go through Continued Education training show great success.”

Cheyenne church of Christ, Oklahoma (remote): Nathan Brewer (member) reports, “Sunday was our first service after a 9-week Evangelism sermon series. At the outset of the Sunday morning sermon, I reminded the congregation to think of people they know who are lost, and then to be on the lookout for those who are experiencing some kind of change in their lives that might open them up to prospecting and then a study. I will remind them this week to continue thinking about these opportunities, and then on Sunday we will see if any names emerge.”

Whispering Hills church of Christ, Broken Arrow, Oklahoma: Matt McBrayer (preacher) reports, “The Lord provides! Last week it was announced by a family of four that they desired to place their membership with another congregation that is closer to their house. This was upsetting to some in the congregation, but the Lord provides. This past Sunday, a family of four placed membership. They have been visiting with us for months, but they had been looking at other congregations as well. It was announced on Sunday that they had made their decision, and we are thankful to add them to the Body of Christ in Broken Arrow, Oklahoma. We only had three visitors yesterday. We sent out two cards. We have had a little bit of a slump in our productivity and have ramped up our efforts in the area of new movers. We pray that this will be the catalyst that we need to add more contacts through a time when we are low on them.”

Union church of Christ, South Carolina (remote): Kent Thompson (member) reports, “We had two Bible studies this last week, and we are praying for fruit. In addition, we had one in the New Convert class. We are building our evangelism work and praying for growth.”

Sycamore Chapel church of Christ, Ashland City, Tennessee: Jackson Erwin (preacher) reports, “We now have 19 prospects and have sent out around 300 compassion cards this month. We just began our Gospel Meeting yesterday and had 197 in attendance. There were several visitors, many of whom are not Christians. Things are really starting to pick up!”

Philadelphia church of Christ, Lebanon, Tennessee (remote): Alex Degraves (preacher) reports, “We have two studies going on currently. One has not been held for some time, however. We hope it can continue in the near future. We had Mission Monday tonight, and we should hopefully have reports on how visits went later this week.”

New Union church of Christ, Manchester, Tennessee: Paul Fulks (elder) reports, “We had eight visitors this past week with one new contact card submitted. We wrote 30 compassion cards. We made four visits and had two in our New Converts class.”

Cookeville church of Christ, Tennessee: Josh Kennedy (preacher) reports, “We have two new contacts for compassion cards; we will send those out this week. Two studies that had lapsed have started again this week. We also have the new movers baskets put together and are ready to go out!”

Rome church of Christ, Lebanon, Tennessee (remote): David Oxley reports, “We met this week for our advanced class. We are sending cards this week to three prospects, and we are planning three visits.  We will meet Monday night for our New Converts class.”

Grundy Street church of Christ, Tullahoma, Tennessee: John Summers (preacher) reports, “For our July 20 morning worship service, we began the series of lessons going through the Back to the Bible books. We have it planned to take three Sundays per booklet, and that seems like a good plan, based on the progress from yesterday. To show everyone that the booklets will work with any version, I referenced the text from different versions in the study yesterday. The ones that are most used by our members include the KJV, NKJV, ASV 1901, ESV, NASB, and NIV versions. I wanted to emphasize strongly not to climb Mt. Version, but to focus on Mt. Conversion. In our auditorium Sunday morning Bible Study, I continued with the discussion around the Neighbor Cards. For last evening’s worship service, we did the ‘Making It Operational’ lesson. I emphasized that what we are doing right now is building the infrastructure upon which our evangelism efforts are going to function. I noted that a train does not run on a track that has not been laid, but with a well-built and well-maintained track, the trains can run on time every time. We have to get the track laid, and I emphasized that right now, this curriculum feels overwhelming because we are still building that infrastructure. Feeling overwhelmed is okay and even natural, but we must still push on in spite of that. For this next week, we will continue with the Back to the Bible lesson for our morning worship service. For the evening service, we will introduce the evangelism table by using the lesson that is available for that.”

Arlington church of Christ, Tennessee: Brandon Tibbits (preacher) reports, “We made several of our visits last week. While we did not get any Bible studies from those visits, all of them did see the Arlington church of Christ very favorably. One of our elders ended up visiting with a family for about two hours (that family had already gone through Book 1). So we are very excited about our progress. We will have are next set of visits planned for next week! This program has drastically changed the way I think as a preacher about the impact we can make in the community!”

Stewarts Creek church of Christ, Smyrna, Tennessee: Jon McCord (member) reports, “We do not have much to update this week. Some of the coordinators are busy traveling, and the compassion card coordinator does not have updated numbers. He decided to save the cards and use them in a Wednesday night class as a topic aside from the Sunday Night training class. The number of prospects seems to be 11, according to our spreadsheet.”

Mountain Creek church of Christ, Chattanooga, Tennessee: Michael Tomshack (elder) reports, “Gary Massey, Elder and Minister, is continuing to study with a couple who commenced attending several weeks ago. They are also participating in our Bible classes and worship assembly. The ongoing interaction of the congregation with them is fostering a foundation of trust, care, and dedication to sharing the Gospel message. Additionally, we are continuing a study with a young adult who was introduced to us through a recent convert. This initiative is part of our efforts to engage new members into the Body and facilitate the evangelism process.”

Ocoee Street church of Christ, Copper Hill, Tennessee: R.E. Vann (elder) reports, “We made four visits from our first New Movers list and had a favorable response from a family of three. The next family had been there for seven years; however, she pointed us to a family who recently moved to the area, and that visit went well, too. Our final two families were not at home. VBS was also successful as we added three adult contacts to our ‘Love Our Neighbors’ list (Prospects). On Sunday morning, our three new neighbors plus five children attended worship service. Afterwards we took them out to lunch and will begin sending them compassion cards this week. We still do not have any Bible studies in progress, but we continue cultivating the soil with love and compassion. Trust the process; all glory to God.”

McEwen church of Christ, Tennessee: John Jones (preacher) reports, “Last night, we introduced invitation cards and encouraged each of our members to hand out ten in the next two weeks! We hope that it will bring a better flow of visitors into our congregation.”

Collierville church of Christ, Tennessee: Justin Evergarden (evangelist) reports, “We are finishing up the training of all our coordinators, making sure everyone is equipped and ready to lead in their respective areas. Alongside that, we’ve begun the planning stages for our next community outreach event, looking for opportunities to connect with our neighbors and build new contacts. This week we are also beginning to implement the new invitation cards. Members are being encouraged to start using them as part of their personal outreach. In addition, we are starting the process of reaching out to those who have fallen away, with the goal of encouraging their return and reminding them they are loved and missed. Thank you for your continued support and prayers as we move forward in this work. Please let me know if there’s anything specific you’d like us to focus on or if you have any suggestions.”

Soddy church of Christ, Tennessee: Joe Mallory (preacher) reports, “Yesterday, we completed the second book of Back to the Bible as a congregation. The study is encouraging all of us to utilize this Bible study series. Over the course of the week, some of our members have been busy studying with friends and loved ones. At least four studies were conducted, including a faithful wife studying with her husband. Please pray for these souls as they consider the truth of the Gospel. We were able to train Care Team 3 yesterday, as they wrote 60 compassion cards. We will begin scheduling times to visit those whom we have been encouraging and praying for over the past month. Glory to God for His wonderful love! We look forward to continuing to serve in His Kingdom.”

Hillcrest church of Christ, Springfield, Tennessee: Tim Taylor (evangelist) reports, “We had one first- time visitor and five returning visitors this past week. We witnessed three souls baptized into Christ and six restorations. We rejoice as we witness the power of the Gospel.”

Birdwell Chapel church of Christ, Cottontown, Tennessee: Kerry England (elder) reports, “This is one of the big weeks of the summer at Birdwell Chapel. It is VBS week! We are concentrating on making it more evangelistic this year. We advertised it in HTH/HTH and on Facebook. We also printed invitation cards for individuals to pass out to friends. A meal is being provided before VBS to make it easier for families to attend. We are registering our visitors so that we may follow up with them. Another couple visited Sunday as a result of receiving HTHHTH! God is blessing Birdwell Chapel! We appreciate all prayers.”

Rivergate church of Christ, Madison, Tennessee: Doug Tooley (preacher) reports, “We had five visitors on Wednesday. We had six visitors on Sunday morning, and one on Sunday night. Two were taken out to eat. One visit was made last week.”

White Oak church of Christ, Chattanooga, Tennessee (remote): John McGiffin (preacher) reports via phone: “We are attending PTP and passed out many invitations to the free session. Back home, we had two young visitors at church. They were treated as honored guests. This week, we will use newspaper ads for the upcoming Bible Lands Museum. We will also do a Facebook Ad and ask local radio stations to do a broadcast from the event.”

Colleyville church of Christ, Texas: John Garza (regional trainer) reports, “The work at Colleyville continues to go well. We currently have four studies taking place, with two more possibly soon. Here are some encouraging words about the four. Dante: ‘This week we are planning to meet two times. One will be to finish Book 3. Provided all things go well, we may have a new brother in Christ by the end of this week. We request prayers for these studies.’ Kendall Thiele: ‘The last time that I studied with Kendall and Jadon (a member of the church), we covered the first point of Believe the Bible. We mainly talked about the cosmological and teleological arguments for an affirmation of a higher being. I do not believe she completely understood the points that were being made, so I will need to look at these arguments deeper and take the time to answer all of her questions before we move forward. We will be studying again on Thursday.’ Marissa and Ladarius: ‘Chris has been studying with them to give them a better understanding of the Bible and God’s plan of salvation.’ In addition to our Bible studies, we have four prospects. Jerry Lugger visited with us a while ago with his brother from Kentucky. Chris has been messaging with him over the last couple weeks in an attempt to visit with him and begin a Bible study. We request prayers for an opportunity to open with him. Luis Ortiz: John met Luis at the gym. Luis is currently out of the country. He is in the Dominican Republic, working and checking on his parents. Additionally, he plans to ask his wife and daughter to see if they received our letters. He appreciates the compassion and encouragement very much. When he gets back, we plan to have lunch or dinner together. Finally, this week we plan to meet with the members concerning the work of prospecting and new convert mentorship.”

Northern Oaks church of Christ, San Antonio, Texas: Mel Hutzler (elder) reports, “We have wonderful news to report. The New Movers training that we had last Monday yielded 23 members trained. We also garnered two contacts as we delivered gift baskets that day. Matthew Montgomery, deacon over evangelism, and Raoul Ferris have created an evangelism room that has allowed us to focus on organization and prospecting new contacts. We also have reviewed our current compassion card method and will be making certain changes that will afford more members being a part of it. This will also increase our follow-up on cards delivered and hopefully more Bible studies. We have one Bible study that went through Back to the Bible and needs some more time, so we are beginning Searching for Truth. We have a few others in Bible studies as well. Keno Shrum will be with us this Saturday and Sunday to give us a refresher course on the evangelism program.”

Roanoke church of Christ, Texas: Caleb Rutherford (preacher) reports, “Our prospect list has been full for the last few weeks, based on visitors, member contacts, and follow-ups from VBS. I will begin a study on Wednesday with one of the young men who visited VBS. The new study that began last Monday continued last night with Book 2. The report is that it could not have gone any better. Book 3 is scheduled for a few weeks from now. We also have another door-knocking scheduled. This will be to invite people to our Gospel Meeting.”

Bridgewater church of Christ, Katy, Texas: Doug Suggs (deacon) reports, “Louvon and I finished the first book of BTTB with Catherine last week. The study is going well. A couple from the community came to our morning worship and said they would return. We hope they will study with us. We sent information to 54 new movers Sunday.”

Howe church of Christ, Texas: Aaron Alsbrook (preacher) reports, “A group of our members travelled to PTP Branson. Jeff Baum just baptized Sarah into Christ. Sarah has been visiting the Howe church of Christ for about eight months. They used Back to the Bible! Praise God! We welcome our new sister.”

Wheeler church of Christ, Texas: Garrett English (preacher) reports, “I had a third study this week, and I still tried to discuss reason with the Scriptures about authority and the prohibitive silence. We made little progress (if any), but the man still wants to meet again this week. I plan to send him some articles beforehand to help him see the truth. This man also attended worship yesterday morning and was well-greeted. Not sure why he attended but we were all glad he did.”

Chapel Hill church of Christ, Tennessee: Matt Jones (deacon) reports, “We still have a couple Bible studies going I know. I will have one this evening and Isaac is still studying with an individual, but he is on vacation this week. Everyone is getting vacations in after a very busy summer but the work continues.”

Abingdon church of Christ, Virginia: Freddie Klein (evangelist) reports, “I continued my personal Bible studies this week with a visitor from the community as well as with my sister. Both studies are going well and showing signs of growth. We also did some yard clean-up for a contact; we have been reaching out to him. It was a good opportunity to serve and continue building the relationship. Card Group 3 met yesterday as scheduled. We have been praying for several people, and we sent encouraging notes to them. We are also ramping up preparations for our School Supply Giveaway. Supplies are coming in, and we are organizing volunteers to help. Excitement is building, and we are praying for a strong turnout and meaningful connections.”

Williamsburg church of Christ, Virginia: Jim Bishop (elder) reports, “This week, the Williamsburg church of Christ completed our monthly door knocking event. The two teams knocked on 28 doors, distributed 11 bags of groceries, provided one prayer request, and gathered four contacts. One new visitor who attended last week returned to Wednesday night Bible Study. May God provide opportunities for all those spreading the Gospel.”

West Side church of Christ, Salem, Virginia: Jeff Durham (elder) reports, “The compassion cards part of our Congregational Evangelism model continues to have enthusiastic participation. In approximately 12 months, we have mailed over 3,000 cards! We met and handed out follow-up visit cards last evening. We shared some best practices and answered questions about this vital part of the process. We asked each person to pray for the people with whom we will be visiting, and for those with whom Bible studies are currently being conducted. It was encouraging to see so many of our brethren eager to make these visits that we hope will yield Bible study opportunities.”
