Editor’s Note: Training the congregation how to use Back to the Bible is also an opportunity to reach those who may be lost in the pews. A pew Bible study can reach people that you may not be able to reach one-on-one. This was the case with the Mountain Home church of Christ. Never underestimate the power of clear and distinctive teaching from the pulpit.

A Bible Study From The Pew
Written by Joshua Adams

Last night, after evening worship, we baptized Satch. Satch has been raised in a household with a faithful mother and a father who attend a denomination. He has been wrestling for weeks with what it looks like to honor both of his parents, but also to follow what God commands in Scripture. The sermons from the past month have been geared around the Back to the Bible studies and have challenged his understanding of what the church is and what his responsibility should be toward the truth. He decided it was time to rid himself of doubt, commit himself to the Lord, and be baptized for the remission of his sins! Though the child of a member here, his situation highlights the sensitive nature and difficulty of studying with people outside of the church, especially if they have denominational ties. The goal is not to convert them to our tradition versus another, but instead to bring them into a relationship with Jesus Christ by understanding and responding to His word.

Afterwards, our compassion card writers stayed and wrote 95 cards for 17 different recipients. We have four Bible studies ongoing with more soon to begin!

Congregational Reports

Welcome Edgewood church of Christ, Columbus, Georgia: We want to welcome the Edgewood church of Christ to the House to House/Heart to Heart School of Evangelism. This congregation is full of workers and were prepared for the seminar.  Their preacher, Matthew Jones, is a true evangelist.  We look forward to watching the congregational model develop.

Glencoe church of Christ, Alabama: Keith Ritchie (evangelist) reports, “Glencoe congregation is planning a two-day transition effort in June. We pray our efforts will produce more studies and conversions. We have worked hard in our door-knocking efforts, and now our door-knocking teams are transition teams. While seeking and saving the lost is evangelistic, so is converting the erring (James 5:19-20). Efforts are being made to do just that at Glencoe. In Mark 1:19, we read about James and John with their father Zebedee in a ship mending their nets. The Greek word for ‘mending’ in Mark 1:19 is the same word used in Galatians 6:1, which is translated ‘restore.’ Friends, evangelism is not only fishing, it is also mending the nets! It is restoring lost souls to their First Love. Glencoe also continues to engage our children in the work of evangelism. With growth, other needs arise. May God continue to bless us with Godly elders and many workers.”

West Huntsville church of Christ, Alabama: Paul Owens (evangelist) reports, “At West Huntsville, we are seeing significant progress in our evangelism efforts. First, our outreach initiatives, including the new movers program, compassion cards, and visitor engagement, generate numerous contacts. Second, we are welcoming visitors from these outreach activities and successfully initiating Bible studies with them. We appreciate prayers for these individuals, hoping that they will obey the Gospel and that they, in turn, will reach and teach their family and friends.”

Cedar Grove church of Christ, Andalusia, Alabama: Josh Holloway (preacher) reports, “This week was a very busy one for us at Cedar Grove. We are in the middle of our Vacation Bible School. Our focus has shifted to that this week, but we are still moving forward with evangelism, too. We have made the registration process a priority this year so we can develop prospects. We have had several visitors this week for VBS. We learned about the new movers program as a congregation. Although we have not officially set the program up, we did take some action. We had a contact card turned in for someone who had recently moved into the area. We made a visit this week, and as a result, the family attended with us this past Sunday. Nina, the grandmother, said she felt loved and right at home. She went to the church of Christ as a child, and her sister is a member of the church in another state. She attended this past Sunday morning for Bible class and worship and felt so loved that she returned Sunday night. And so far this week, she has brought her grandchildren to VBS every night. Please pray for her as we develop her as a prospect. We also have two other weekly Bible studies going on right now, both of which are going very well. We have started our compassion card program. We have five teams. They will officially get started on assignments after VBS. With this week’s totals added to May, our monthly results are as follows: 15 prospects, 24 visitors, and 11 cards mailed (even though we have not officially started our compassion card ministry yet). We conducted ten Bible studies and have made 46 visits. We had two restorations (for a total of four) and two baptisms (for a total of five). We are just getting started in the HTHSOE, but we are in love with the evangelistic fire that it has instilled in our members. We are moving forward with the model piece by piece.”

Hartselle church of Christ, Alabama: Justin Smith (preacher) reports, “The work in Hartselle is continuing on. Our training is underway, and members are staying engaged. Our hope is to finish the initial training by the end of summer. We have two ongoing Bible studies, and we are praying for more. For God’s glory!”

Highland Park church of Christ, Muscle Shoals, Alabama: Andrew Myhan (deacon) reports, “We are working on new welcome cards that have a QR code that has a greeting for visitors that attend our gatherings. This would include worship services, weddings, showers, and community get-togethers. We appreciate prayers for those prospects that we are reaching and teaching.”

Hatton church of Christ, Town Creek, Alabama: Chris Miller (preacher) reports, “We rejoice with having a baptism this past week. Glenda Thompson was baptized into Christ by her husband Lowell. He said for 65 years he has been praying for this and teaching along the way. This Sunday, we also had two come forward asking for prayers for strength and forgiveness. Keno Shrum did a great job motivating the congregation, especially informing some of our new members and emphasizing congregational evangelism.”

Creekwood church of Christ, Mobile, Alabama: Tucker Presley (preacher) reports, “On Saturday, several men of our congregation were able to clean up the yard of an elderly woman on our prospect list. Her son passed earlier this year, and she has been dealing with some health issues. She cannot do any yard work, so several of us worked to clean up the yard. She and her daughter were shocked and overwhelmed by how much we were able to accomplish in just a couple of hours. They were so thankful. I really think we can reach these ladies. The daughter seems to have some reservations when we discuss the church, but we have planted the seed and will continue to water it. God will provide the increase. Other than that, we still have one study going on. Cards are being sent out regularly. New names are being added to the list regularly. We have been promoting our upcoming VBS heavily. We are going to collect visitor info and follow up with them after VBS in hopes of reaching them for Christ. Things are rolling along!”

Windsor church of Christ, Colorado: Lucas Stephens (member) reports, “We had 88 people, including seven visitors. We have one Bible study going with one of our contacts/prospects. We have had a request for a correspondence study, so we are considering how to serve an individual who contacted us through our website.”

Margaret Street church of Christ, Milton, Florida: Troy Spradlin (preacher) reports, “It is time to ‘Refresh and Refocus!’ This past Sunday, three of our Evangelism Ministry Coordinators gave a presentation to the congregation to bring attention to a couple of areas that need improvement, primarily in the areas of Pew Greeters and setting up Bible studies. This included asking for more volunteers to help with Transition Visits. We also gave everyone a new Bookmark to find more contacts. Since many have seen the success we have achieved and how the model works, we believe more members will now be willing to provide us with contacts. Our current 2025 Year-to-Date Accountability Board numbers are: 165 Contacts; 39 Visitors; 98 Neighbors (Prospects whom we have loved and/or studied with); 39 Bible Studies (total completed); 1334 Compassion Cards sent; and nine Baptisms.”

Wildwood church of Christ, Florida: Tony Clay (evangelist) reports, “Last night was our first ‘Sunday Night for the Master’ meeting. We prepared 30 cards to send out to visitors and erring members in the hope that the outpouring of genuine love and compassion from the church will show them how much they mean to us. We continue to train the congregation on the necessity and strategy of generating contacts and remaining on mission for souls. The Lord is blessing the Wildwood church as we continue to have many visitors every week.”

Niceville church of Christ, Florida: Joe Palmer (preacher) reports, “This is the official start of tourist season, so we expect more visitors. We are especially grateful to find prospects walking in who either have been here in the past, or are currently affiliated with the Lord’s church. Two families with young children placed membership in the past few weeks. A younger Christian couple is attending. The evangelism ministry pays dividends even in this area. First, we are greeting and welcoming them via the cards. Second, we are more active and friendly to visitors. Third, we have a place to put them to work, and they see an active church. We did not have any new studies this week, but we continued studies with new Christians. I (Joe) had a big issue this week in that I was diagnosed with COVID-19. I was out of the pulpit, but two of our men stepped up and taught, and the congregation carried on greetings and reaching out. We have a new couple working as greeters, and that is stretching their horizons into being future evangelists. We mailed 28 cards this week.”

Avalon church of Christ, Florida (remote): Preston Silcox (elder) reports, “Last week, we mailed 18 cards and had two Bible studies. We hosted an end-of-school event followed by a Friends and Family Day, both of which led to several new contacts. For the next three Thursdays, we are hosting classes on ‘How to Study Your Bible.’ We are praying this will lead to more contacts and prospects.”

Lafayette church of Christ, Georgia: Jesse Teague (deacon) reports, “Group 1 met after worship last night to send compassion cards. We had about eight folks sending cards, and we reached out to seven souls. This week is VBS. We try to get the Gospel in front of the folks as much as possible by keeping the BIBLE in Vacation BIBLE School. We also have adult classes every night, and we love it when the parents can come and stay. We pray that God will give us the opportunity to reach the lost in all that we do!”

Cartersville church of Christ, Georgia (remote): Charles Harris (regional trainer) reports, “We baptized Monica after studying Back to the Bible. We have a Bible study scheduled for every day this week. The work continues to progress.”

Woodstock church of Christ, Georgia: Larkin Cook (member) reports, “The WCOC congregation attended the Sunabella of Towne Lake Assistant Living devotional on Sunday. They had six non-Christian attendees. The Prison Ministry Group attended the Mother’s Day Devotional at the Regional Youth Detention Center (RYDC). There were forty mothers in attendance. We are working on getting cleared to volunteer at an Adult Medium Security Facility to conduct Bible Studies. The Compassion Cards Group sent nine compassion cards this week. WCOC had six non-Christian visitors this Sunday morning. We also had two Bibles studies last week.”

Eatonton church of Christ, Georgia (remote): Roderick Coney (minister) reports, “Last week we sent two compassion cards. We have 20 contacts.  We are prospecting two others. With only 15 members, we are right at our limit. We appreciate all prayers as we continue to strive to do the Lord’s work here in Eatonton.”

Collinsville-Troy church of Christ, Illinois: Jason Wright (elder) reports, “An interesting situation took place this past week. We have been studying with a lady since July. She was at last year’s AMC Community Meal on Friday. She wants to be baptized and added to the Lord’s church. However, her sister, who has power of attorney, has told her no. We are pausing for the moment, praying and trying to figure out our next move. There are many details I cannot share here, but I ask for prayers for this situation. We mailed 179 compassion cards. Three of our studies were rescheduled due to sickness and other issues. Our VBS begins next week. Because our clothing closet was open last Tuesday, we had two contacts as well. We are praying for success as we continue the Lord’s work.”

Highland Village church of Christ, Bloomington, Indiana: Mark Stauffer (elder) reports, “Highland Village sent 96 compassion cards in May. We also made three visits, had four prospects, and had five visitors for services. We trained the congregation on levels of evangelism, and each member has skills to contribute that nobody else can replace. We are teaching that faithful obedience to God’s Word is what produces results. We are also planning a refresh to reinvigorate the church.”

Beloit church of Christ, Kansas (remote): Dustin Dougherty (regional trainer) reports, “We had a good worship service yesterday, with attendance in the low 30’s, and three visitors in attendance. A young couple and their young daughter were in attendance from the local area. They are ‘shopping around,’ and they said they thought the services were very nice. We pray they will come again next week. They will be receiving cards in the mail for visiting, and we were able to practice some practical applications concerning visitors. They each received a visitor gift—a coffee mug with a small candle inside. The ladies had their ladies’ Bible study last Saturday and had a good turnout. The men will have our men’s Bible study and breakfast this coming Saturday morning. To God be the glory.”

Poole church of Christ, Kentucky: Andrew Wynne (preacher) reports, “This past week, we conducted one study with a visitor who has been attending over the last several weeks. We looked at evidences that prove there is a God. Next, we plan to look at evidence that the Bible is from God. We continue to send out compassion cards and are still working through Book 3 of Back to the Bible as a congregation. We appreciate prayers that God will continue to bless our efforts.”

Central church of Christ, Paducah, Kentucky: Adam Faughn (preacher) reports, “A study with April and Jacob was conducted on Memorial Day, before Jacob had to return to their home state. We have found a congregation near their home and gotten in touch with them, so that they have no excuses not to attend once they return. The studies with April (Jacob has to go home now) are continuing, hopefully this week. We have also scheduled a study with Rebecca, a recent guest who is very excited to get started. Our VBS is this week, and we are working hard to make sure we are engaged with guests and have plans to follow up with them. We appreciate all prayers for these efforts!”

Gonzales church of Christ, Louisiana: Patrick Adkins (deacon) reports, “Today, the morning sermon was ‘Quantity over Quality’. Following the sermon, we moved those who have recently lost loved ones from the neighbor card to the prospect list to receive three or four weeks of compassion cards. Then the afternoon sermon was about visitors. We have added our eight baptisms to the accountability board for 2025. We are moving in the right direction with patience. We are still working to get Brent Mouille to the school.”

Chalmette church of Christ, Louisiana: Scott Russell (member) reports, “This week, the Chalmette church of Christ has continued its study of Back to the Bible. We have two prospects who are receiving cards—approximately 40 cards! We have scheduled one Bible study. Also, one of our members, James Snyder, made our ‘accountability board.’ It looks great! I will send a picture in a separate text.”

La Plata church of Christ, Maryland (remote): Eric Sykes (regional trainer) reports, “Last week one of our new converts, brother Reginal Perry, went home to visit his sister (Jaquondra Taylor) in Atlanta, Georgia. While he was there, he attended his nephew’s High School graduation. He was also able to sit down and study all three lessons of BTTB with his sister, and she decided to put the Lord on in baptism on Friday. We currently have four open Bible studies, and six folks are attending the new converts’ training classes. We have six folks on our prospect list, and we sent out 48 compassion cards last week. We had to reschedule our training class on Friday for Lesson 3 of BTTB. One of the folks (Ms. Ruth) was on our compassion card list because her husband (Mr. Robert) was in poor health. We went to visit Mr. Robert in the hospital on Thursday. He passed away on Friday. We went by to visit Ms. Ruth with a couple from our congregation who are their neighbors. We offered our condolences and dropped off some food. Please keep Ms. Ruth Develbis and her family lifted up in prayer. We have 13 folks in the mid-week, Wednesday night, Growing in Christ Bible study class. We are finishing Chapter 4. For our Sunday morning class, we are teaching the book, Why I Am a Member of the Church of Christ, for new converts and for members who would like a refresher. So much is happening here in La Plata. The saints are excited, and the Gospel message is being shared. We appreciate all prayers for our work so that souls may be saved!”

Beltway church of Christ, Camp Springs, Maryland: LeAndre Johnson (preacher) reports, “This week, we gave the ‘Quantity, Not Quality’ lesson to the congregation and entitled it ‘The DEI Gospel.’ We completed another prospect card this week, and we had five people attend our New Converts’ class this week. We are now preparing to train the congregation on Lesson 1 of Back to the Bible.

Iuka church of Christ, Mississippi: Sam Glover (preacher) reports, “We are trucking along at Iuka. Last week, we sent 12 cards, continued one Bible study, and added one new prospect.”

New Concord church of Christ, New Hampshire (remote): Shane Belanger (member) reports, “Good afternoon from the Concord, New Hampshire church Of Christ. The following is the progress we made over the last week: We began the program last Wednesday during the Wednesday night Bible class. We continued our evangelistic studies during the Sunday morning Bible class and also incorporated the Sunday sermon into the program. We made progress with our materials and organized them in a specific room designated for the materials. We started the evangelistic table set up and began to set up our materials to encourage the congregation and prepare them for the coming weeks. Our bulletin also displayed our evangelistic efforts. Every week, Terry Hale will give us an evangelistic tip to keep the congregation encouraged and focused on our individual outreach intentions. We are happy to report that we do have a prospect who has agreed to begin the Back to the Bible series of lessons starting this Tuesday. Many of the members are eager to learn more and are excited and encouraged to be part of the program.”

Mountain Island church of Christ, Charlotte, North Carolina: Clyde Gilbert (elder) reports, “We had one baptism on Sunday and four Bible studies this past week, including one new study. We also had one visitor who joined us for lunch on Sunday. We hope we can study the Bible with this visitor soon.”

East Flushing church of Christ, New York (remote): Clarence Jenkins (preacher) reports, “We had four visitors in worship service. In preparation for an evangelistic Vacation Bible School, we watched the video ‘Contacts: An Evangelistic Vacation Bible School’ after the service and wrote 39 compassion cards. Our metrics thus far, for and through the month of June, are two baptisms, 39 compassion cards, 23 prospects, seven Bible studies off and on, and one person in the New Convert class. We appreciate all prayers.”

Linville Forest church of Christ, Kernersville, North Carolina: Steve Hare (elder) reports, “Great news! We baptized Cheryl Shipman tonight! She is the mother of Grace, one of our converts from a few years ago. It is wonderful to see the ripple effect, especially since her daughter has such a passion for winning souls.”

New Concord church of Christ, Ohio: Terry Townsend (preacher) reports, “Great News! Tony, a gentleman we have been praying for and studying with for almost two years, made the decision to put the Lord on in baptism! To God be the glory! (Picture of Tony, Linda Fleming, and me included). Nothing else to report other than we honored our graduates on Sunday night. We did have several visitors (relatives of graduates) who attended services for that. We hope to add them to our contacts list this week.”

East Sparta church of Christ, Magnolia, Ohio: Andrew Masterson (preacher) reports, “We had a great week of training, and we have some prospect follow-ups this week. We are currently in two Bible studies that are very promising. The Bible studies that Keno and Keith started during our seminar revealed that Kasey and Mason were living together out of wedlock. When Keith got to Lesson 3, they repented. They will get their marriage certificate. Keith will perform the marriage ceremony, and they will get baptized on that same day.”

Owasso church of Christ, Oklahoma: David Combs (elder) reports, “Yesterday in our adult Bible class in the auditorium, Dan continued with Book 2 of Back to the Bible. Our spark plug, Tim, offered prayer for the people on our bookmark cards and for the HTHSOE in general, as well as an update. Sunday evening worship was another training session given by Dan. The following evening, Group 1 met in the annex to write compassion cards. Eleven people wrote 60 cards to go out this week. We currently have one Bible study in progress. Our New Converts class, taught by Jeremiah, is well-received. We have a few transition visits each week. Our door greeters and pew greeter teams are in place and working well, greeting and filling out contact cards. Our visitors are receiving visitor bags. Our updated board is as follows: Visitors: 15, Prospects: 21, Visits Made: 20, Cards Sent: 813, Bible Studies: 6, Baptisms: 4, and Baptism Goals: 18.”

Cheyenne church of Christ, Oklahoma (remote): Nathan Brewer (member) reports, “I preached the first half of Book 1 of Back to the Bible on Sunday. I plan to finish it this Sunday morning and then spend the following four Sunday mornings going over Book 2 and Book 3. I emphasized how simple the study is; folks who have been Christians for several years should already be familiar with most of the verses we are covering.”

Coweta church of Christ, Oklahoma: Keno Shrum (regional trainer) reports, “On Sunday, we had several visitors. Our greeters got their contact information, and we will start mailing compassion cards. On Tuesday evening, Jamie and I will have a Bible study with a man who visited recently.

On Thursday evening, we will have some of our members over for dinner, a study, and some training for mentorship. Last weekend, I conducted a Refresh with the wonderful brothers and sisters at the Hatton church of Christ, Alabama. They are soul winners and committed evangelists, but they recognized the need for a Refresh. The training went great, and I have no doubt they will bring many more souls to Christ. If your congregation went through the HTHSOE seminar more than 6 months to a year ago, reach out to Rob or me to schedule a Continued Education/Refresh training. You will learn the latest evangelism techniques and be reminded of how to effectively use the Evangelism Model. I pray God blesses you all in your efforts to grow the Kingdom!

Sullivan Village church of Christ, Lawton, Oklahoma: Steven Hill (preacher) reports, “Sullivan Village is back in the saddle, and we hope to advance the frontier of evangelistic outreach in Lawton, Oklahoma. Our elders are organizing lists and getting people plugged in, and we are about to be firing on all cylinders again. We are thankful to the House to House School of Evangelism for all their continued training, help, and encouragement. Please keep us in your prayers as we take the Gospel into our community and plant the seed of the Kingdom!”

Union church of Christ, South Carolina (remote): Terry Hale (evangelist) reports, “So far, we have sent 24 cards to visitors from the previous Sunday. One visitor returned and brought a friend. The visitor’s bag and contact were received, and cards were prepared to be mailed. We had a study with a prospect in Book 3. She has now produced two contacts who will join the study. We request prayers for Mattie, a prospect also studying in Book 3. She has been diagnosed with Stage 1 cancer, and her husband has had hospice called in for him. Training and studies in all three books continue. Nine studies are ongoing at the moment. We have three or four more studies that may develop, and we are praying for more workers willing to be trained.”

East Main church of Christ, Murfreesboro, Tennessee: Brad Rowley (elder) reports, “During the month of May, we had a total of four new contact cards, delivered 14 New Movers Baskets, and wrote 18 compassion cards. We completed two follow-up visits for the month. We had a total of 11 ongoing Bible studies. It is exciting to see our new converts participate in our worship services. We have high expectations for our Vacation Bible School this year. With our new social media advertisement and our door-knocking, we are looking forward to more visitors than in recent years. We are still tweaking our church app to assist in our evangelism efforts. We have received a lot of compliments on our new website; it is our prayer that this will lead to more contacts and opportunities.”

Stewarts Creek church of Christ, Smyrna, Tennessee: Jon McCord (deacon) reports, “We plan to start meeting weekly on Sundays, and we began this past week. The morning lesson was ‘It’s Quantity, Not Quality.’ The evening training was about working with visitors.”

Fayetteville church of Christ, Tennessee: Steve Jefferson (elder) reports, “Good morning from the West Fayetteville congregation. We had a good day of worship, and we are encouraged by the 11 students in the First Principle class. Yesterday, we sent 12 cards to one prospect who has visited us a few times. We currently have three prospects in Bible studies as their schedules allow. We also have three requests through the mail for Bible correspondence courses. This comes from our support of Mike Hixson‘s program ‘Anchor of the Soul.’”

Mountain Creek church of Christ, Chattanooga, Tennessee: Michael Tomshack (elder) reports, “We are preparing for our VBS, which will take place June 22-25. We have sent out invitations to previous attendees within the community surrounding our building and on social media, with the boost increasing as the date nears. This will be our large summer contact event, as mentioned in ‘Tips for Evangelism: Getting Contacts from Large Events.’ We will remind our members to sit with community guests during each evening meal before VBS begins and ask the questions that are emphasized in that lesson. We will gather the information nightly and follow up with our Bible study teams immediately.”

Grundy Street church of Christ, Tullahoma, Tennessee: John Duncan (elder) reports, “Due to our previous planned events, it was decided that we would not start with Lesson 1 until after our Gospel Meeting, which starts June 15.  So lesson 1 will be on June 22. We have emphasized the coming lessons and the importance of adding names to the card and praying for the work.”

Ocoee Street church of Christ, Copper Hill, Tennessee: R.E. Vann (elder) reports, “We were blessed with thirty-two visitors! Although most of these were nonlocals visiting their families, three were from our neighbors’ list (prospects), who have been receiving our cards. I would also like to request prayers from RLT readers for our recent convert, Kristin, as she is being confronted with familial trials.”

McEwen church of Christ, Tennessee: John Jones (preacher) reports, “We have ongoing Bible studies this week, and we were blessed to have more visitors Sunday. We are gearing up for VBS and are planning to treat every visitor like a contact with cards, phone calls, visits, and gifts. We are thankful that we have learned how to do these things!”

Chapel Hill church of Christ, Tennessee: Matt Jones (deacon) reports, “We are busy planning for our VBS that will start this coming Sunday. Much preparation is going into advertising it and planning for visitors, along with post-visit follow-ups. This is always a busy time of year with many opportunities. We are praying for a successful VBS with many doors that will be opened.”

Sycamore Chapel church of Christ, Ashland City, Tennessee: Jackson Erwin (preacher) reports, “We put up our accountability board last week, and have our compassion and visitor cards organized. We now have about 12 prospects, as well. We are trying to get a system together for counting everything, but that will hopefully be done by the end of this week. As for the Believe the Bible series, we are going over it right now on Sunday nights. We just finished the first booklet this past Sunday.”

Cookeville church of Christ, Tennessee: Jonathan Medley (elder) reports, “We added seven new prospects this week! Five are recipients of the New Movers baskets; they seemed to appreciate the gifts. One is a lady who recently had surgery, and another is a neighbor of a member who recently fell and was put in a nursing home. We still have one Bible study in progress with Jared. We will be finishing Book 3 this week. He is a strong Baptist, but I have found that he does not agree with many of the stereotypical beliefs of Baptists. For example, he believes all congregations are to be autonomous, he rejects all aspects of Calvinism, and he does not believe that the “pastor” (i.e., preacher) is supposed to be the sole decision maker. That gives me hope that he can be converted. We have put a few topics to the side that he wants to study further, which we agreed to do after we get through the BTTB series. One of those is a deeper study of instruments in worship.”

Philadelphia church of Christ, Lebanon, Tennessee (remote): Alex DeGraves (associate preacher) reports, “We have had two contact cards filled out recently. We are excited to start writing and sending out compassion cards for these people! One of our elders is planning a Bible study with one of our prospects. They need to find a good time, but we are hopeful that it goes well. Additionally, we are planning on having our first visiting day in June, as we now have nine prospects who have received all their cards. We are praying these will bear fruit!”

Soddy church of Christ, Tennessee: Joe Mallory (preacher), “We have had a wonderful week full of prayer and study in Soddy Daisy, Tennessee. Two Bible studies were conducted, and three more have been set up for this week. Yesterday, we collected our first contact cards and are excited to begin the process of sending compassion cards to those prospects who have been on our prayer list (Jude 22). We finished our study in John 4 and focused on the urgency of reaching the lost by following Jesus’ example of ‘patient urgency.’ We appreciate all prayers for our congregation as we strive to serve the Lord, teach the truth, cultivate the soil with compassion, and sow the seed of the Kingdom.”

Collierville church of Christ, Tennessee: Justin Evergarden (evangelist) reports, “This week, we will be resuming our regular evangelism training schedule now that both Aaron and I are back in town. We are excited to continue building on the momentum that we have over the past few weeks. Several Bible studies are currently ongoing, and we are encouraged by the interest and positive responses. We continue extending invitations and encouraging others to visit our services and participate in these studies. Our evangelism coordinators have now been assigned, and we will begin one-on-one training with each of them in the coming weeks to ensure they are equipped and confident in their roles.

We appreciate all ongoing prayers and support. The work at Collierville is steadily growing, and we are committed to pressing forward to reach the lost and strengthen the body.”

Blackman church of Christ, Murfreesboro, Tennessee (remote): Brian McCord (member) reports, “Our bedding giveaway was a moderate success. We still have a lot of stock and will probably make this a regular activity. We made 19 contacts via that giveaway and will be sending cards to them soon. In the next week, we will focus on new movers baskets and getting those delivered. We sent out around 20 cards last week. We have one person in the New Converts class.”

Hillcrest church of Christ, Springfield, Tennessee: Tim Taylor (evangelist) reports, “We sent 18 compassion cards last week. We currently have 11 prospects. We have three ongoing Bible studies, and we hope a fourth will begin this coming week. Tanza was baptized into Christ on Wednesday after Bible study. A picture and a video are on the way.”

Birdwell Chapel church of Christ, Cottontown, Tennessee: Kerry England (elder) reports, “Sunday was an exciting day! We have had visitors come to activities that were advertised in HTH/HTH. But Sunday, a visitor came to worship services saying he had received the Calvinism issue of HTH/HTH and wanted to find out more. Robert offered to talk with him at his convenience. The visitor reached out to him by phone yesterday to say how much he enjoyed straightforward Bible preaching and how warmly he was welcomed. We are praying that God blesses the seeds we are sowing. We have advertised our upcoming VBS in HTH/HTH and are hoping that leads to contacts. Also, we are planning to have a backpack drive before school starts that will allow us to help the community and let us meet more people.”

Rivergate church of Christ, Madison, Tennessee: Doug Tooley (preacher) reports, “We had seven visitors on Sunday and one on Sunday night. We took two to lunch after the Sunday morning service. Some visitors were members passing through. We had a lady place membership this week. When she met with the elders, she told them she had received compassion cards from Rivergate. She told the elders they meant the world to her and that she cried when she read them because someone cared.”

White Oak church of Christ, Chattanooga, Tennessee (remote): John McGiffin (preacher) reports, “I am reporting from White Oak via cell phone. Our visitor program is doing very well. We had four visitors return for a fourth time and one return for a second time. We are continuing to prepare a table for the 70th anniversary of the city of Red Bank. We are currently preparing marketing information for our Bible Lands Museum exhibit and our upcoming Family and Friends Day.”

Northern Oaks church of Christ, San Antonio, Texas: Mel Hutzler (elder) reports, “We have lots of wonderful news to report. Carol Buster, who has been visiting with us, was baptized Sunday morning after services and before our graduation meal. Naomi Bentley (elder’s wife) has been studying with her and did amazing work, leading her to Christ. We got the contact from the ‘Bold Christian’ YouTube podcast. We have a lot more Bible studies going on, with some taking longer than others. Last month, there were six baptisms from the HOW Foundation. In the month of July, we have the Ferris family coming to work with us for a year on evangelism. We also have Keno Shrum, who will be speaking to us at the end of July about the importance of evangelism. This past Sunday, we also had one of our members come forward asking for prayers. At our Senior luncheon, we had three seniors whom we congratulated for their accomplishments. Also, one of our college students gave a wonderful afternoon lesson during the worship service.”

Southwest church of Christ, Austin, Texas: Bryce Mayfield (evangelist) reports, “We had another baptism last night! Jake has been visiting us for several weeks now and has agreed to study the Bible. After finishing Back to the Bible booklet 3, he was baptized for the remission of his sins. Praise God and all glory to Him!

Bridgewater church of Christ, Katy, Texas: Doug Suggs (deacon) reports, “One of our card teams met Sunday night and prepared about 40 cards to be sent out. We have had two more Spanish women come to our services on Sunday evening. Our evangelist, Wade Webster, does his PowerPoint in English and Spanish, and the church has purchased some listening devices so that Wade’s lessons can be translated into Spanish. A visitor who has come a few times will be having a Bible study with Jim soon. Our New Converts class is going well. Some are getting instruction in a Spanish class and some in an English class. Over the past two years, all but three converts that we have had are attending regularly. One of those was the Chinese student that we baptized, and he is back in China, but he is trying to come back to the United States. We keep praying that he will get his visa and be able to attend the Southwest School of Biblical Studies in August. He has a visa interview scheduled for July 17.”

Roanoke church of Christ, Texas: Caleb Rutherford (preacher) reports, “Several members have been out traveling, and it will continue to be that way over the summer. However, members are stepping up and filling in the gaps as needed. We are writing cards and turning in contact names. A transition visit was made earlier this week, and it looks like a study is going to be set up. That would make seven active studies on going. The model continues to work well for us.”

Colleyville church of Christ, Texas: John Garza (regional trainer) reports, “The work continues here at Colleyville. We are working through some troubleshooting in a few areas of the program. Additionally, we have many prospects, but we are struggling to get Bible studies set up. Actively, we have 3 three taking place. One will continue when she gets back from vacation. We have two visits planned for Thursday, and possibly three.”

Howe church of Christ, Texas: Aaron Alsbrook (preacher) reports, “The Howe congregation is moving forward in our evangelism efforts. This week, we are beginning to make visits to those who have received our cards. On Sunday, our visitation team met and encouraged one another by discussing a game plan for our visits this week. We had a beautiful end to last week with a clothing drive out together by our ladies. Many members were encouraged by the work and the prayers for more contacts. We are also with our young people at camp this week.”

Fruitvale church of Christ, Texas: Carl McCann (elder) reports, “Things are slowing down for us in regards to active Bible studies. This last week, the Gospel was taught to Mike and Sherri. He said that he understood what he needed to do, but he also knew he could not continue to live in sin, and his words were, “I do not want to do this in vain.” He also acknowledged that he and Sherri had been discussing being baptized. They agreed to continue to study each week and share a meal at Ben and Nanci’s house. We still have a few couples and individuals who have been visiting with us for a long time, whom we need to move into a personal Bible study. We hope to pick up the nursing home Bible study in August, and Wayne and Faye Melton will be giving those lessons. Wayne is considering using one of the three possible organized studies: The Believe the Bible series, Does It Matter, or God and Man.”

Eisenhower church of Christ, Odessa, Texas: Allen Weakland (elder) reports, “As we begin this week, the Eisenhower congregation is focused on the lost. The plans have been set in motion, which includes our continual effort to study with Michelle. She is presently involved in Back to the Bible and will be starting to engage in another study with sister Nancy this week. We request prayers for this young lady as we continue to draw nigh unto the Lord. Our VBS is scheduled for the month of July, and we are in full swing in our preparation. This year, we again sent out an email to families that engaged in last year’s VBS, and many have already filled out the preregistration. This has caused many within our congregation to be excited, and we have seen an increase in members being involved in our preparations. We are also starting our Fall Festival planning, which has always provided us with contacts. Though October seems to be far away, it will be here before we know it. This event has proven to have a deep impact on our community. We have seen restorations, conversions, and numerous contacts as a result; may God once again give the increase. As always, we know that we are able to engage in such efforts because the church has a mind toward the lost. May God be praised in all that we do.”

Wheeler church of Christ, Texas: Garrett English (preacher) reports, “I am back from vacation/lectureship and ready to continue the efforts made previously as well as preparing for new efforts with our weekly VBS coming up next Monday. I will be seeking times to study with those who have received our cards and those I have contacted in recent weeks.”

Abingdon church of Christ, Virginia: Freddie Klein (evangelist) reports, “Our membership continues to fill out contact cards regularly. In the first week, we met and sent out 70 compassion cards. We have had good participation in each compassion card group, and our members remain actively involved. We have many visitor bags prepared for transition visits and for welcoming new movers. Additionally, Abingdon offers several programs that have been attracting young families in our local community. These programs include Trail Life, a Christian-based scouting initiative that our members support. One of our elders is working closely with this program. We are also excited about our Bible school curriculum, which takes students through the entire Bible every four years. This has sparked a lot of community interest. We have also been able to use Lads to Leaders to connect with new families. Looking ahead, in the fall we will launch a homeschool co-op. We believe this will be another great opportunity to engage with our community and invite more families to become involved with our congregation.”

Williamsburg church of Christ, Virginia: Jim Bishop (elder) reports, “The Williamsburg church of Christ continues to seek out contacts. Our prayers continue for those on our bookmarks. This week, we were blessed with a local visitor who lives in the apartments beside the church building. We pray for all those reaching out to the lost and spreading the Gospel.”

Westside church of Christ, Salem, Virginia: Jeff Durham (elder) reports, “Our morning lesson and evening discussions centered around one of our theme words, ‘Awareness.’ Our awareness begins with the Lord, is strengthened by leadership, leads to learning, and requires lawfulness. Our discussions covered many areas about which we can and should be aware. Among them, increasing our awareness of the needs of others around us, both physical and spiritual, leads to opportunities to serve and share the Good News of God’s Word. May we keep our eyes wide open to be more aware of how we can reflect God’s love and the hope we have in Him.”

NOTE: These reports are from Christians and congregations enrolled in the House to House/Heart to Heart School of Evangelism. These emails are sent to teach and provoke one another to remain focused on the mission of Christ. Each week, we share several reports and highlight one with more details. We hope you enjoy reading them.
