A Necessary Step: Believe the Bible
Written by Joe Mallory (preacher)
Praise God for redemption in Christ Jesus! We thank God for providing opportunities in response to the faithful, earnest prayers of His people (James 5:16). Little did we know, God would bring us together during Marc’s mothers’ final days in the ICU. In that moment of grief, we were blessed to sit with him and his siblings in comfort and prayer, beginning a friendship that continued through the spring and summer.
As we spent time together, Marc wanted to learn more about the faith his mother displayed throughout her life. Being an engineer, he had specific questions about the existence of God and wanted to understand how science aligns with our Creator’s design. In early April, he began visiting us for worship. After sharing a few meals together, we decided we needed to take a step back and start our studies using the Believe the Bible series, along with resources from Apologetics Press to help answer his questions. After completing the second booklet, Marc went home to study and watch the videos we sent. He returned to our next meeting with a clear urgency to obey the Lord! We sat down with the Scriptures to let the Bible tell him what he must do. Expressing that he did not want to wait any longer, Marc believed, repented, confessed Christ, and was baptized for the remission of his sins! Praise God for answering a mother’s lifelong prayers, and please keep our new brother in your prayers.”
Congregational Reports
Glencoe church of Christ, Alabama: Keith Ritchie (evangelist) reports, “We had an exciting Sunday as Hill West came forward for baptism. Several months ago, Geneva introduced Hill to the church. Rob and Nicole began building a relationship and started Bible studies. After finishing lesson 3, Hill paused to reflect on the studies. We continued to encourage him as he visited the congregation. Hill continued to study and pray, and after the sermon Brooks preached on Sunday, he was baptized. The congregation circled around him and prayed to welcome him to his new family.”
Petersville church of Christ, Florence, Alabama: Adam Richardson (preacher) reports, “We sent 12 compassion cards from our adult class last week. I have been asked by two separate congregations about our experience with the House to House/Heart to Heart School of Evangelism this week. I am excited to share ideas with them about learning how to change the culture of the congregation. Our elders still mention the contact cards at the beginning of worship each week, and next week’s sermon is on the theme of evangelism.”
Hatton church of Christ, Town Creek, Alabama: Chris Miller (preacher) reports, “We had two baptisms last week; both had been studying with one of our college students and decided to obey the Gospel. We are keeping their names private for now out of respect for some things they are having to work through. As we celebrate every conversion, we also know many face adversities due to making the step to be baptized. We admire everyone who shows great faith in choosing to do the right thing. To God be all the glory!”
Creekwood church of Christ, Mobile, Alabama: Tucker Presley (preacher) reports, “We are having two baptisms tonight! We have been studying with a couple for several weeks, and both were baptized and placed membership with us! We are also visiting VBS visitors this week. Hopefully, some studies will come from that. We have one other Bible study going on as well.”
Cedar Grove church of Christ, Andalusia, Alabama: Joshua Holloway (preacher) reports, “This week we are sending out 67 compassion cards, bringing our August total to 230 cards and our grand total to 6,116 cards sent. We continue to be encouraged by the opportunities God is giving us to reach others with the Gospel. We are currently involved in about nine regular Bible studies with non-Christians and new converts. One of those studies this past week provided an unexpected opportunity. We have been studying with a woman named Casey, who has several medical issues and receives help from home healthcare. During our Bible study, one of the healthcare workers came by to help clean and take care of things around the house. As she heard the study taking place, she became interested and asked if she could sit in and listen. Of course, we were glad to have her join us! What began as a study with one person quickly became a two-for-one Bible study. She enjoyed the study so much that afterward she wanted to look through the material we were using. She has now become a new contact. You never know who may be listening or what door God may open when His Word is being taught! Please continue to pray for these Bible studies, for those receiving cards, and especially for opportunities like this one—where simply teaching one person may open the door to teach another.”
Northside church of Christ, Harrison, Arkansas: Larry Keener (elder) reports, “Northside congregation rejoices in another baptism of one of our youth this week. Our transition visits are being made, and the next transition visits will be assigned. Our first visit resulted in a family returning that has been out of service for over ten years. We also had a woman and three children visit whom we contacted from VBS. Our back-to-school Sunday had several visitors also. Card writing teams meet each Sunday after services. To God be the glory.”
Washington Avenue church of Christ, Jonesboro, Arkansas: Parker Pribble (member) reports, “Card Team 2 met for the first time this week and filled out 81 compassion cards for five prospects. We had six visitors this Sunday, including three who were from out of town. During the morning service, Austin taught Part 3 of John 4, focusing on how Jesus saw a spiritual opportunity and seized it. Following the PM service, Craig Honeycutt, one of our deacons, led a short training session on our new visitor program, where he covered the basics and defined the roles involved. He also assembled a team of volunteers that will be meeting next week for further training. We are looking forward to rolling out this new program, which will lead to even more contacts!”
Margaret Street church of Christ, Milton, Florida: Troy Spradlin (preacher) reports, “We had our first ‘Stewards Meeting’ (our Bring, Teach, and Keep facilitators) this past week to outline our primary objectives for the evangelism ministry. Part of the discussion included a new plan for improving participation and the need for consistent communication. The first tasks assigned to each of them were: (1) to meet with their respective teams of coordinators, (2) to recruit more volunteers, and (3) to train them in the different areas of work assigned to them. Our current total 2026 Accountability Board numbers are 234 Contacts Received; 162 Neighbors (Prospects); 870 Compassion Cards sent; 35 Bible studies; two Restorations and 12 Baptisms.”
Concord Street church of Christ, Orlando, Florida: Billy Dickson (evangelist) reports, “We are excited to share that two of our youth group members, Jackson and Ethan, were baptized this week. Please pray for these two new souls as they begin their walk with Christ. With these baptisms, Concord Street has now seen 11 baptisms since our evangelism seminar. We are incredibly thankful to see the fruit of the congregation’s growing commitment to evangelism and discipleship. We also recently received an encouraging response from one of our prospects who has been receiving compassion cards. She shared that the cards and prayers have given her strength and peace as she continues through a difficult recovery. She expressed her gratitude for the support and said that she trusts God, knowing that He hears her prayers and is working in her life; she believes that everything happens in His perfect timing. We are thankful that something as simple as a card can communicate the love and care of the church and open doors for spiritual conversations. We were also blessed to receive a package of cards from the Central church of Christ in Calhoun, Georgia. Their members took the time to write cards specifically to encourage the recent converts here at Concord Street. We are so thankful for their love, encouragement, and partnership in helping strengthen these new Christians. We ask for prayers for our new converts, our ongoing Bible studies, and the relationships we are building with prospects. We are grateful for what God continues to do through His people!”
Stuart church of Christ, Florida: Tom Neth (deacon) reports, “We continue to work faithfully with the process and look for opportunities to reach people with the Gospel. While the number of new contacts has slowed, we are not slowing down our efforts. Instead, we are becoming more intentional about circling back. We are reaching out to some prodigals and reconnecting with prospects whose life circumstances have improved and who may now be more open to engaging again. Sometimes the right opportunity comes not when we first meet someone, but later when circumstances have changed. We continue the everyday work of writing compassion cards, greeting visitors, making visits, building relationships, and sharing God’s Word. The consistency of these efforts remains important, even when the results are not immediate. We are thankful that we have seen 15 baptisms year to date. Even more encouraging, we have now seen 20 baptisms in the ten months since we began the HTH program. That is a tremendous reminder of what can happen when we remain faithful, involve more members in the work, and continue planting and watering. We are encouraged by what God continues to do and remain committed to faithfully working the process, trusting Him to provide the increase in His time.”
Niceville church of Christ, Florida: Joe Palmer (preacher) reports, “This week I am away at PTP. We had three visitors Sunday, plus five returning visitors. We sent out 18 cards and had one study ongoing. It was good to hear of follow-up while I was away. I was able to do some follow-up and found that most of it had been taken care of. We are starting a new chapter in our congregation with a new minister being added. We are trying to grow our young adult ministry and reach out to the community. We welcome Hayden Baker to our staff and look forward to growing with him.”
Milestone church of Christ, Cantonment, Florida: Randy Brantley (elder) reports, “This week we will be sending out 31 more compassion cards. On Saturday, we will have another training session, with about 20 planning to attend. There are two Bible studies continuing. Unfortunately, one of the ladies we were sending cards to passed away last week. Please pray for her family.”
Cumming church of Christ, Georgia: Murphy O’Brien (member) reports, “For the week of August 16, we had two new contacts, bringing our year-to-date total to 63. There were no new visitor info cards last week, keeping that total at 17 for the year. We followed up with two visitors last week, bringing our total follow-ups this year to 48. We sent 91 cards last week, bringing our total cards sent this year to 474. We currently have 20 prospects. We held two Bible studies last week, bringing our total for the year to 42. There were no baptisms last week, keeping our total baptisms this year at one.”
Warner Robins church of Christ, Georgia: Damien Walker (evangelist) reports, “So far this year, we have counted 684 visitors. Many are recurring, and for those recurring visitors, we have made follow-up plans or attempts. We plan to train two or three families in the next couple of weeks on visitor hospitality and capturing contact information. We have sent over 1,000 cards, made over 60 visits, had around 20 dedicated Bible studies, eight baptisms, and four restorations.”
Cartersville church of Christ, Georgia (remote): Charles Harris (regional trainer) reports, “After seeing some of my Facebook posts, a denominational pastor reached out to me for Bible study. We have studied Back to the Bible 1 and will study Booklet 2 when I return from PTP. Also, I will begin a study with a lady who was thankful to be helped from our food pantry.”
Woodstock church of Christ, Georgia: Larkin Cook (member) reports, “Woodstock church of Christ (WCOC), and the Sunabella Assisted Living Facility (SALF) conducted devotionals on Sunday. We had four non-Christians attend. The HTH Door Knocking Campaign knocked on 43 doors and made nine contacts. Of the nine, four were added to the prospect/contact list. The compassion group sent out six compassion cards. We had six visitors this Sunday for worship, and one individual placed membership. WCOC had two Bible studies last week and welcomed a heartwarming baptism into the family. This lady had performed a lifesaving CPR on the one performing the lifesaving baptism.”
Gray church of Christ, Georgia (remote): Keith Dixon (preacher) reports, “The person that we were supposed to study with thought it could be done without a one-on-one study, so we are not sure what will happen there; we are still praying about the situation. We attempted a visit, but the family was not there. We will go back and try again. We have sent 79 cards out this month. The big jump is because we are sending cards to people we have already sent cards to, letting them know we are still thinking of them and praying for them. We are still plowing.”
Collinsville-Troy church of Christ, Illinois: Jason Wright (evangelist) reports, “It has been a busy couple of weeks of vacation time. It is good to be back. In the past few weeks, we conducted three Bible studies. We mailed 84 compassion cards. We made 63 new-mover basket visits, with 24 delivered (38 percent). We were 50 percent on follow-ups. I am starting Booklet 3 with a couple who have been previously married. We will be covering I Corinthians 6:9-10, and we are praying it goes well. Booklet 3 helped to develop trust and build a bond that allows everyone involved to share details that often stay hidden. The man in this relationship spoke with me privately about one-time worshipping Satan and doing drugs. I reminded him that the blood of Christ is strong enough to remove those sins. He was relieved! We shall see what happens!”
Harrisburg church of Christ, Illinois (remote): Doug Berry (preacher) reports, “We have sent out cards to five new prospects! I know that does not sound like much, but right now it is a blessing to continue reaching out to people. We are delivering our next group of newcomers’ baskets this week. We are thankful that Keno Shrum will be with us this coming weekend! We have been looking forward to this for some time!”
15th Street church of Christ, Ottawa, Kansas (remote): Brady Altic (associate minister) reports, “Our brother Clayton delivered an awesome message geared towards evangelism this Sunday to help teach and encourage our congregation to do our part in helping grow God’s Kingdom. We were thrilled to have three of our newest members in the pews together with us, worshiping our awesome God! With them, we have reached our 10 percent goal and hope to surpass that by the end of this year. Clayton finished Back to the Bible, Lesson one, with a couple this evening and is excited to do Lesson 2 next week. We are going to send cards to a local man, Daral, who has recently lost his wife. We hope and pray that these cards will help him through this hard time and open his heart to a Bible study to receive God’s word. We appreciate all prayers for us and those with whom we are having Bible studies. We also appreciate prayers for our congregation to stay steadfast in this work for the Lord.”
Columbus church of Christ, Kansas (remote): Matt Fowler (member) reports, “I must lead with a somber note. Joe and Beth did not obey the Gospel after Back to the Bible Study #3. They said they needed more time to consider, and then unfortunately, they reconsidered and informed us they would be staying with their current church. I have invited them to do further study. We request prayers for them and for us. Our local visitors from last week returned this Sunday. This time they stayed for the fellowship meal, and we got to know them better. We sent some compassion cards to a widow mourning the loss of her husband. We are praying for all the efforts going on throughout the brotherhood. Keep sowing seed, brethren!”
Beloit church of Christ, Kansas (remote): Dustin Dougherty (regional trainer) reports, “We continue the Believe the Bible congregational study/training during the Sunday morning adult class. The study is progressing nicely, and discussion has been good. It is been good to familiarize the members with the material and learn to use it effectively. We had our first organic visitor from the new mover’s baskets program Sunday morning; he received a spaghetti basket right before we left for Branson PTP. I gave him the visitor’s gift and got his contact info so we can write him cards soon.”
Spring Creek church of Christ, Hickory, Kentucky: David Morse (elder) reports, “Greetings from the Spring Creek congregation. We are excited that we have completed Bible studies with four individuals since our last report. Unfortunately, two of those decided to continue their current path. The other two, are teenage siblings. They were not ready to be baptized once we completed the study on Sunday, but we feel confident that they will make that decision in the near future. Our White Group wrote compassion cards this week. Our Leadership group continues to meet every Wednesday to discuss our progress. We have subscribed to the HTH new mover’s listings and are looking forward to receiving our first list. Our numbers: Visitors- 28, Prospects- 12, Cards written – 2,665, Bible Studies – three, Baptisms – five, Baptism Goal – seven.”
Gonzales church of Christ, Louisiana: Ben Vallery (deacon) reports, “The Gonzales church of Christ signed 22 cards this week, bringing our total to 65 for the month to date. Our Bible studies continue, along with our New Convert classes. Our New Mover’s program has been renewed after a transfer of coordinator in this role.”
La Plata church of Christ, Maryland: Eric Sykes (regional trainer) reports, “The saints at the La Plata church of Christ wrote 36 compassion cards this week, and we had one visitor this week. The Transition Visits team put together 28 gift cups, and half of them were handed out to team members on Sunday to be delivered this week. We also put together 12 new mover baskets. The New Movers’ team will start delivering gift baskets later in the week, when we get back home. We are being refreshed and renewed at Polishing the Pulpit. It is incredible being surrounded by so many saints, rather like Disneyland for Christians. We love it!”
Waldorf church of Christ, Maryland: Eric Day (member) reports, “Since July 26, we have delivered ten baskets. No one has visited, but we will do porch visits with them this month. We will also be sending compassion cards this week.”
Iuka church of Christ, Mississippi: Sam Glover (preacher) reports, “I hope Polishing the Pulpit is a profitable and encouraging time for you and everyone there. This week, I am excited to report that we are working with three couples. Someone has been assigned to follow up with each couple, and we will send cards to them. All three represent exciting opportunities, especially with two of them having prior history with the Lord’s church. We appreciate all prayers as we continue our work, especially regarding our market outreach. Volunteers have been happily engaged in this work, even when it felt like it was over 100° outside. They are sweating hard, but their work is being honored.”
Fulton church of Christ, Mississippi: Richard Comer (member) reports, “We continue to send about 20 cards per week. Door knocking is planned for August 30. I am currently in a Bible study. We will mail out the House to House bulletin and then follow up on that. I will contact Matt Wallin for the mailing. We plan to have door-knocking training next month.”
Aberdeen church of Christ, Mississippi: Jonathan Hagar (preacher) reports, “WE HAD A BAPTISM THIS WEEK!! Madison Nevins, a smart young college girl studying physical therapy, was baptized this past Friday. She and her boyfriend have been spending more time with the church here and visiting with us. She has many family members who are in regular attendance with us. We sat down to study with her and her boyfriend, who is a Catholic, and after we finished three lessons, she decided she needed to be baptized. The church continues to pray for the young man in the Bible study, and we celebrate the wonderful example that Madison has been! This Sunday was our Card Writing Sunday. The church stayed a few minutes after services to write cards to five prospects, who will receive the cards over the next four weeks. The Door Knocking team went out this past weekend to make the transition visits for our prospects from last month. They will go out again this weekend to visit our new movers in the community. Next Sunday, we have our events planning session for the Fall and Winter months. The church is planning many exciting outreach projects for the county in the coming months. The Magnolia Bible Institute, which uses the Aberdeen church building as one of its satellite campuses, will start this Saturday. We have a Ladies’ Day planned for September 19 and a church door-knocking day planned for the end of that month.”
Concord church of Christ, New Hampshire: Terry Hale (evangelist) reports, “We are requesting prayers for seven contacts that we are preparing for the prospect stage to the Bible study. Our new converts are progressing well, with an average of four in class weekly. Our newest converts are bringing more contacts to us. We are praying as we work in our training, as we pray for every member to be involved.”
Oak Forest church of Christ, Goldsboro, North Carolina: Dennis May (elder) reports, “This Sunday we had two visitors. On Sunday afternoon the Compassion Card group wrote 100 cards. For the past three weeks, our church has been gathering school supplies to give to teachers who have students who need them. We have drafted a letter for each teacher telling them how much the Oak Forest church of Christ appreciates the important work they do each day. We praised them for their dedication, patience, and commitment to educating and encouraging the children under their care. We showed appreciation for the work they are doing to make a positive, lasting difference in our community. We also told them we would love to have them and their family visit and worship with us at Oak Forest! We made sure they know the times of our services and the location of our services. Next week, we will share with our congregation how great a difference they have made in meeting the school supplies their teachers needed and in ensuring the students can learn because Oak Forest church of Christ gave the children the tools needed to learn.”
Owasso church of Christ, Oklahoma: David Combs(elder) reports, “Before our third Sunday evening song service and devotional, Tim Bowman talked about contacts, their importance, how we get them, and how to develop them into Bible studies. After our devotional, one response asked for prayers and forgiveness. Amen! Sunday evening following evening services, Group 3 met to write compassion cards. Fifteen writers wrote 46 cards to be mailed out this week.”
Oklahoma Panhandle State University, Goodwell, Oklahoma: Raoul Ferris (director of Bible Chair) reports, “This week we finished all the major overhauls for the student center and chapel space so we took the opportunity to offer Sunday evening worship. We were blessed to have 15 people present. Two were high school and middle school boys whom our son Mickey invited. Three were college students. After the sermon, we preached from Mark chapter one: ‘Baptism for Remission of Sins.’ One of the college students said, ‘I am Pentecostal. We have been taught baptism does not save; I do not believe that, but the thief was not baptized. What are your thoughts?’ From that cue, we set up a meal and Bible study this Thursday evening with Landon and Trae. In addition, we are traveling this week to Sunray, Texas, to help brother Sam Jones study with six friends of his. We assisted the college students with move-in day, and from that we had three good conversations with Bode, Corvin, and George. George came to worship on Sunday. We are currently building relationships with four people. Two new converts need assistance in continuing to grow in Christ. This week we open our Thursday community meal, and we are eager to use this to make more contacts.”
Marietta church of Christ, Oklahoma (remote): Chase Green (preacher) reports, “I have been out of town for 13 days, first at a podcasting conference for Scattered Abroad Network, and then at a Youth Rally in Missouri. But the congregation has been working the evangelism plan successfully in my absence. We have a lot of good workers here! One family continues to visit with us after coming to our VBS. They have indicated they do not want to do a Bible study for now, so we are giving them a little space, and I hope to ask again in the near future. We are glad they are still attending. While I was away, several of our members delivered pies to contacts who have been receiving cards. Almost all of them were very thankful for the cards and were blown away by the congregation’s thoughtfulness. Some expressed interest in visiting soon, while others expressed interest in possibly setting up Bible studies. One lady to whom we delivered a new mover’s basket recently visited our midweek services on Wednesday, August 12. She has a mother who can speak only Spanish, and is also interested in attending, so we are trying to get them connected with our Hispanic minister, Augusto Hernandez. The congregation is simply blown away by the amount of interest in our congregation that was stimulated by very few hours of door-knocking a few weeks ago for VBS. Doing evangelism the right way clearly works. As one elder said to me recently, ‘Doing this is what we just need to BE as Christians. This needs to be a part of the culture here.” Yes, it does, and the fruit will come. We are also eagerly awaiting Rob’s evangelism seminar here next January.”
Alkire Road church of Christ, Grove City, Ohio: Tony Dunnagan (member) reports, “We had two visitors. One was a member from out of town, and we obtained a contact card for the other. We sent 42 compassion cards. There are two Bible studies at this time. We have scheduled a coordinators’ meeting for the end of the month for discussion and training.”
Greenville church of Christ, Ohio: Christopher Haguewood (preacher) reports, “We held the drive to run from 10 a.m.- 1 p.m. on the flyer but were completely out of supplies by 12. A good problem to have in some regards, especially since we were thrilled to have 43 families that came in for the drive. We helped 107 kids, according to our records, get the things they need for the upcoming school year. Even better than that, we had 7 families request a Bible study that we are following up with as we speak.”
Grove church of Christ, Oklahoma: Juan Jarmillo (preacher) reports, “This week, my wife and I are at PTP. However, we are taking some of this time to attend evangelism classes so we can learn more and apply it to our congregation! We added one more prospect to our list last week. She came asking for help, and we have added her to a list of compassion cards because she has been going through a difficult time. We want to show her Christ’s love! We are also having a ‘Back-to-School ’party with some of the youth this upcoming Sunday, Lord willing. We hope we can use this to spark more events and bring in more contacts! We appreciate all prayers!”
York church of Christ, Pennsylvania: Mark Rashke (deacon) reports, “Fred and Pam (preacher and his wife) were away at Polishing the Pulpit this week, and Jay (elder) filled in with excellent lessons for the morning and evening services. We had lower attendance than usual, but we did have some new visitors, including a couple who know Jay, and a family of three from the area. We gave them visitor bags and had good conversations with them. The family did not want to give us their address, but they are connected with another man who has become a regular attendee with us. We have been trying to schedule a Bible study with this man. He had questions this week about some doctrinal beliefs, so we offered the three-part study we like to use to introduce people to what the church of Christ believes and why (Back to the Bible). He deferred doing the study to another time, but we will keep fishing. Sometimes, we have to let the fish pull some line against the drag, and then wait to reel again when the fish stops. We also have some members who are working to replenish our visitor bags to replace those we have recently given out. Of course, we have many members praying for the efforts. We are a small group, but I can see that more of our members are starting to get engaged beyond our Sunday morning worship service.”
Saint Andrews Road church of Christ, Columbia, South Carolina: Jamie Byrom (minister) reports, “This past week we made three transition visits. One new contact was created. The congregation wrote 29 compassion cards to two prospects; one is a member who has fallen away, and the other is a lady who recently had a baby. We continue to have three in our New Converts’ class.”
Hillcrest church of Christ, Springfield, Tennessee: Tim Taylor (evangelist) reports, “We are starting to see encouraging results from our efforts in serving our newest contacts. One of the families who has received our compassion cards attended our worship services Sunday morning and evening. Two of our sisters have scheduled Bible studies with two other ladies whom we contacted through our Backpack and School Supplies giveaway. We are continuing to follow up with others and pray those efforts will bear fruit. All 29 of our new prospects have been paired with a family from Hillcrest for follow-up.”
Covington church of Christ, Tennessee: Wayne Dalrymple (elder) reports, “We rejoice that Melissa was baptized into Christ and added to the Lord’s Body! She completed her study with Delores Friday evening and immediately wanted to be baptized. She is the mother of Brittany, one of our new converts. The Gospel is God’s power to salvation! On other fronts, we continue to prospect several contacts through cards and personal efforts. We plan to go door-knocking next month just before our area-wide Gospel Meeting. We will coordinate with all the churches in the county with whom we are cooperating to cover as much of the county as possible. Jeff is scheduled to begin a study with Alan when he returns from PTP.”
Cookeville church of Christ, Tennessee: Daniel Burton (member) reports, “With many of us at Polishing the Pulpit this week, one thing continues to become more apparent: we must use every moment as an opportunity to be evangelistic. Evangelism isn’t limited to a Bible study, knocking a door, or sending a card. It’s recognizing the opportunities God places in front of us. Our experiences can open doors. A scar can become a teaching moment. We never know what conversation, invitation, or personal story might cause someone to think about their soul.”
Collierville church of Christ, Tennessee: Justin Evergarden (evangelist) reports, “We have had another good week of work here in Collierville. We are now at 31 new visitors, 728 cards sent, six visits made, 54 prospects, six active Bible studies, and 66 new mover’s baskets delivered for the year. We are especially encouraged by the continued growth in visitors and prospects and are working to turn those new contacts into opportunities for Bible studies. We appreciate all continued prayers for the work!”
Birdwell Chapel church of Christ, Cottontown, Tennessee: Kerry England (elder) reports, “We had 179 in attendance Sunday, with several of our members gone for various reasons. (PTP and parents taking students back to college). James Slate, our youth minister, spoke and did an excellent job as always. A large contingent from Hillcrest came to support him. We received our new movers’ contacts last week and will be making those visits soon. We are also revamping our new mover gifts to include a cookbook of some of our ladies’ favorite recipes, and we will include ingredients to prepare one of them in the future. Hopefully, this will be appreciated and remind them of the church when they use the cookbook.”
Rome church of Christ, Lebanon, Tennessee (remote): David Oxley reports, “We are sending cards to four prospects this week. We will be scheduling visits next week. Some of us are at PTP this week.”
White Bluff church of Christ, Tennessee: Shamron Jackson (elder) reports, “Several of us are at PTP this week sharpening our swords. While we were away, the congregation had eight visitors. Our cards group was down this week, but we will still be sending out 70 cards this week. We have several studies going on right now; we appreciate prayers for open minds and hearts.”
Freewill church of Christ, Gainesboro, Tennessee (remote): Andrew Scott (preacher) reports, “Our work continues even while I was away at PTP. We were blessed with more visitors and will be sending out cards this week. We will be mailing out our direct copies of House to House soon.”
Chapel Hill church of Christ, Tennessee: Matt Jones (deacon) reports, “Overall, things are still progressing. We have a couple of coordinators who have served very well and are looking to let someone else take the lead. So we are looking at how to best transition those positions as seamlessly as possible. We continue to have several visitors, and a few of whom are repeat visitors, so that is encouraging, and we have reached out to them already with cards. We are still working to establish Bible studies with these contacts. We are also still continuing to encourage and walk with those that have recently obeyed the Gospel. We continue to pray for our efforts here and around the world to reach the lost.”
Mountain Creek church of Christ, Chattanooga, Tennessee: Michael Tomshack (elder) reports, “We rejoice with the addition of two new members to the Lord’s Body through our Deaf Ministry. The couple recently relocated from California to Chattanooga to be in closer proximity to their grandson. During a recent deaf community gathering, they encountered Jesse Neal, the Deaf Minister, and his wife, Debbie. After learning of Jesse’s role as a preacher for the Deaf, they began attending the Deaf Worship Assembly and decided to be baptized on Sunday. Additionally, Jesse is currently studying with another couple, whom he anticipates will soon be baptized. This brings our total number of baptisms and restorations to ten, with a year-end goal of twelve. We earnestly pray that the Lord will continue to provide the necessary increase.”
Rivergate church of Christ, Madison, Tennessee: Doug Tooley (preacher) reports, “We had three visitors on Wednesday night. We had nine on Sunday morning and two on Sunday night. One visit was made last week. Three young ladies were baptized at the Walnut Academy for troubled girls on Monday. Sue Crain was helping with this on Monday evening and had knee surgery on Tuesday morning.”
Natalia church of Christ, Texas: Jim Word (preacher) reports, “Dale Elrod, who was just baptized himself in June of 2023, had a friend who recently passed away, and this opened a door to have a study with his widow, Mary Schneider, and her best friend, Karen Rivas. Dale did all the legwork and arranged the studies. These two ladies have been friends since they were little girls, and they both grew up in the catholic church. We went through Back to the Bible with them, and while they were unfamiliar with Scripture to a degree, they were eager to learn. After the third study, they both realized that they needed to be baptized into Jesus Christ for the remission of their sins, and both were baptized on 7/24/26. Our next study consisted of one of our long-time members, Viola Pittman, who has been bringing her sister with her to worship for many years. It recently came to my attention that her sister, Liz Caraway, may not be a member of the church, so I asked her if she would consider doing a study with me. She agreed and Viola wanted to sit in on the study as well. As we went through the studies, Viola expressed that while she was baptized into the church nearly sixty years ago, she wasn’t sure that she was baptized for the right reason. After the third study, not only did Liz realize that her baptism in the Baptist church wasn’t the one baptism the Bible demands, but Viola said she wanted to be baptized for the right reason this time. We baptized both of them on 8/11/26. Next, Dale tells me he has a young man who has been working for him part-time, and he was going to try to secure a Bible study with him. This young man’s name is Dual Zerr, and he agreed to do the studies. We had the first study with him the same week that I had the first study with Liz and Viola, the same for the second, and third. Dual got through the third study and realized that his baptism at a church camp when he was a kid wasn’t scriptural, and he wanted to be baptized immediately. We baptized Dual on the same day that Viola and Liz were baptized, 8/11/26. Dale already has two more pending studies set up. Please pray for this great wave of fertile hearts to continue.”
Whitehouse church of Christ, Texas: Cody Stewart (evangelist) reports, “This past Sunday we began the series of sermons on John 4. We determined that one of our elders, brother Aaron, would serve as the bookmark coordinator, with our other elder or the ministers filling in as needed. Our members received bookmarks and were encouraged to be mindful of the lost they encounter in their daily lives.”
Stratford church of Christ, Texas: Chad Theis (coordinator) reports, “This past week we were blessed with five visitors and continue to see encouraging opportunities to share the Gospel. In our prospecting efforts we sent out 20 compassion cards and made one personal visit. We conducted one Bible study and are thankful for the open doors God is providing. Although we recorded no baptisms this week, we remain excited about the potential among those we are already in contact with. We look forward to beginning a Book 3 Bible study soon with a lady who has faced significant challenges over the past several months; through ongoing contact and the church’s genuine love, we have stayed connected with her. We are committed to ‘earning’ Bible studies by intentionally giving our time and attention to the people around us, trusting that God will continue to open hearts and bring about growth.”
Roanoke church of Christ, Texas: Caleb Rutherford (preacher) reports, “We made nine transition visits over the weekend. Twelve studies are currently ongoing. Joey and I are both at PTP this week. We continue to work through our AMC contacts, with some 47 visits over the last 3 1/2 weeks or so.”
Bridge Avenue church of Christ, Weslaco, Texas: Brualio Carvajal (preacher) reports, “We had another baptism this week. Two months ago, one of our members invited Deborah Guerra to our worship services. She attended for a couple of weeks, and then she began the Back to the Bible study. She completed study #3 and decided to be baptized on Wednesday afternoon. Her sister has been attending services, and we started a Bible study with her as well. We have three ongoing Bible studies at this time. In addition, we have had good attendance in our New Convert’s classes. We have developed a team of greeters focused on visitors. We have a schedule for our team in place. We saw some immediate impact with our team this week.”
Colleyville church of Christ, Texas: John Garza (evangelist) reports, “We are continuing to update the way we are doing things at Colleyville. Again, our card writing has been amazing, as we have received more cards than in the past. We have one Bible study taking place, and we are doing our best to encourage brethren who are falling on hard times. Many good works are happening, especially as we reset from the summer.”
Bridgewater church of Christ, Katy, Texas: Doug Suggs (deacon) reports, “We sent out 48 New Movers packets to two area codes around our building. We are praying we get some responses from them. Some of our new converts are taking part in our congregation. Jonathan has been helping with the projection of our power points and videoing our services as well as leading prayers. Christian is also actively praying and talking with some about studying. No new studies have taken place. On Sunday, Matt Gibson, an instructor of Southwest School of Biblical Studies, spoke about the school in our Bible class and preached Sunday morning in Wade’s absence.”
Wheeler church of Christ, Texas: Garrett English (preacher) reports, “We had another baptism on Sunday! This young man had been in studies on Wednesday night in our youth class in which baptism has been a recent topic. He woke up that morning ready to make the commitment, and nothing delayed him! We will continue to study with the new convert from last week. She is eager to keep learning more and be involved. It is our prayer that more Bible studies will be held in the coming weeks as a result of these baptisms.”
North Jefferson church of Christ, Mount Pleasant, Texas: Davin Whatley (associate minister) reports, “Reach Team 3 met yesterday and wrote cards. Last week, Austin and I started Back to the Bible with Nathali. We are looking to study again this week. Chelle (prospect) was in a car wreck, and we are going to work on encouraging her more. Scott, Jena, and I will be having lunch with Zamya (prospect) on Saturday. I had lunch with Dakota (a member’s stepson who recently moved to the area), and I am hoping to set up a Bible study with him soon. Jeff and Oscar are starting Back to the Bible on Friday. Jeff and Carrie are hosting Wayne Mardis (prospect) and his wife on Thursday. We had Send Out Sunday yesterday and scheduled more transition visits. We are excited to see what will come from them!”
Seagoville church of Christ, Texas: Kodie Martin (evangelist) reports, “We wrote 85 cards this past Sunday to both our prospects and also to our School Supplies Drive visitors. We also included invitation cards for our drive visitors as we begin to work with them. Our elders have also restarted our fifth Sundays, and we will have our first one in two weeks. They have taken the initiative to make it evangelistic and to plan on inviting others to those services so we can make additional contacts.”
Williamsburg church of Christ, Virginia: Jim Bishop (elder) reports, “This week the Williamsburg church of Christ distributed Back-to-School bags. Along with the school supplies, it also contained information about the church in Williamsburg and how we serve the community. School supply bags were distributed to several locations. On Saturday, a group of brothers and sisters distributed school supply bags to community children using a drive-through system. They were successful in distributing 156 bags. This also gave us face-to-face time with parents. On Sunday, we had a mother and daughter attend who just moved to the area, and we look forward to talking to them again next week. Several brothers placed door hangers on a nearby apartment complex. We pray for all those who are working hard to make contacts, preach the Gospel, and complete Bible studies.”
West Side church of Christ, Salem, Virginia: Jeff Durham (elder) reports, “Back to the Bible studies continue. Using the Survey Card, which asks basic questions about a person’s current understanding of religious matters and their spiritual condition, is a very helpful part of the teaching process. It gives the teacher background information on where the student believes they are in their spiritual life. The questions about how they were saved allow us to compare their experiences with the Scriptures once we get to that part of the study. The student can then see how their previous experiences differ from what the Bible says. It is an effective way to help them self-evaluate.”
Note: These reports are from Christians and congregations enrolled in the House to House/Heart to Heart School of Evangelism. We send these emails to teach and provoke one another to remain focused on the mission of Christ. Each week, we share several reports and highlight one with more details. We hope you enjoy reading them.
