Featured Work: Jerseyville church of Christ, IL

Editor’s Note: HTHSOE receives more requests than can be handled within a reasonable period. Therefore, we began a remote enrollment option. I was unsure how this option would work, understanding that there would be a specific energy drop-off without onsite training. We were also concerned about a lack of buy-in from the membership. This year has proven that those concerns can be overcome, and congregations can succeed using our HTHSOE training and curriculum. We submit the Jerseyville church of Christ, Illinois, for your consideration.

Evangelism Heals a Congregation
By Jake Medford

The Jerseyville, Illinois, church of Christ has had a tiresome history regarding splits, preachers leaving quickly, and slow growth. The congregation at Jerseyville is without elders, but our goal is to have elders when we can. In 2017-2022, there were seven baptisms in total. Today, two of them are still working with us in the kingdom. Attendance had ranged from eight to 25 on Sunday mornings in that same time period. That background is needed to understand where the Jerseyville congregation is today.

In late 2022, we received a flyer for the House-to-House Digital School of Evangelism. Some in the congregation were worried that it would be like another program they had done before and were hesitant at first. In January, we started by playing the videos on Sunday mornings on the screen for our sermon. On Sunday nights, we did other video lessons on evangelism, not from home. We stretched out this program through the middle of May. We took it a lot slower than most congregations do. We passed out materials as instructed with the corresponding lessons explaining their use.

Our first set of compassion cards went out the first week of May 2023; they were all addressed to members who had left the church and visitors. On May 21, current members had a strange look on their faces as some of those who had left the church walked back through the doors. It was on that date that I heard, “This program really works!” We met our first attendance record that day of 28 individuals together on Sunday morning.

Since that time, we have had our new record attendance up to 37, which is just a number. We have learned what real numbers are and made that our focus. Since we started the program, over 450 compassion cards have been sent out. We added three events to our calendars and made them contact creators. There have been seven baptisms so far this year. We have had many new visitors who became prospects. The congregation knows how to evangelize, how to do one-on-one studies, and how to recognize what is required—and we do it. We put up a number board to display the numbers of cards sent, visitors, follow-ups, Bible studies, and baptisms we had for the previous month. It keeps us focused as we continue to push forward to do what we can. The future looks bright, and all the glory goes to God. We are thankful for the guidance this program has given us.

Congregational Reports

Glencoe church of Christ, Alabama: David Marker (elder) reports, “We recently planned two events that have resulted in numerous contacts, and we continue to follow up with those. We are challenging our congregation to finish the year strong. We have tweaked our New Mover program to enhance our results. In our weekly visits, my fellow elder, Brooks Boyd, and I talked with a man who has been negligent for many years. He has shown interest in making things right, and we will continue to follow up with him. We continue to work with five other contacts. Four of those are young people attending because their mom was converted last year. In closing, we plan to have a holiday get-together and send out invitations to the families who have recently attended our Fall Festival and Backpack Giveaway.”

Hatton church of Christ, Alabama: Chris Miller (preacher) reports, “Evangelism will travel! One of our members, Alexia, and her fiancé Taylor, are in Texas. They spoke to a friend about the Gospel and just happened to have a copy of Does It Matter? on hand. The study went well, but it was not quite enough. They called Rob and asked for the closest congregation where they could get a set of Back to the Bible, which happened to be the Brown Trail School of Preaching. Kevin Rhodes connected with them so they could be rearmed with the tools needed. They are now doing the study using Back to the Bible. We appreciate all who will pray that this effort will produce fruit. We request prayers for Lisa Wallace; she has terminal cancer and is receiving compassion cards right now. We will visit soon; time is running out, and we hope to set up a study. We have also studied with John. He continues to attend; we are hopeful with patience that he will soon obey.”

Canal Heights church of Christ, Demopolis, Alabama: Bryan Cook (preacher) reports, “Last Sunday during announcements, we received a text from a deacon. Brandon Paulk said that he had been studying with Christopher Clink. Brandon’s family that week had been dealing with sickness and fever, so he had decided to stay home and avoid spreading germs. That morning, Christopher decided he needed to be baptized. I told him to come on. After announcements, Brandon baptized Christopher. This was a fantastic way to start our Sunday worship. We ask for continued prayers for our efforts as we pray also for all who are working the plan.”

Chase Park church of Christ, Huntsville, Alabama: Pat Cowden (preacher) reports, “Since our last report we have had two baptisms. One is a man who has been a regular visitor at Chase Park for several years; the other is his close friend. They studied with one of our deacons and put on Christ in baptism a few weeks ago. I started a study with a nice lady today who is a caregiver for one of our elder’s mothers. She has been watching our services and classes and asked, “Why are there so many churches?” I shared with her that that was the question I asked when I started visiting the church of Christ many years ago. The study went very well, and we scheduled another study soon. Maria and I will travel to Arkansas this week for her mother’s funeral. We request prayers for these new brothers in Christ and for our newest study, as well as the other studies that are continuing. We had a Ministry Fair. Ministry leaders had booths with information for people to come by and learn about various ministries so they can participate in the work that appeals to them. I was pleased when I saw that 68 people signed up for various aspects of our evangelistic efforts.”

Highway church of Christ, Benton, Arkansas: James Hutchings (deacon) reports, “We have had six baptisms this year. We sent out 27 cards sent last week. We continue to look for more contacts. We are encouraging more action by the congregation each week.”

North Brevard church of Christ, Titusville, Florida: Doug Gerdes (member) reports, “We had a very uplifting time at our Food Pantry Day. We spoke with each person and continued our effort to establish relationships with people from our community. We are now known as a praying church, so we were asked to add several to our prayer list. They will also be added to our compassion card effort. Several thanked us for the cards they had received. Two Bible studies with people from the Food Pantry contacts are in progress, and two more are being scheduled.”

Lake City church of Christ, Florida: Jim Flegert (elder) reports, “We still have several studies being conducted by several of our members. Because of the time change, our Monday Mission effort has been temporarily moved to Sunday afternoon for the winter months. We had eight teams go out to contact these potential prospects. We are encouraged by the 22 potential movers contacts in two weeks.”

Niceville church of Christ, Florida: Joe Palmer (preacher) reports, “This week we sent 45 cards. We had an organization meeting on Sunday night. We have a training class next week for our Evangelism Team during Wednesday night Bible study. I have about 12 people interested in this class.  I have been training Believe the Bible on Sunday night and Jule Miller on Wednesday nights this quarter.”

Fayetteville church of Christ, Georgia: David Gulledge (associate preacher) reports, “Yesterday was our annual ThankSinging, so that was the focus of the whole day. At the end of the day, we gathered and sent cards to nine prospects. We are getting some excellent responses from the people who receive the cards. People seem excited about getting cards.”

Woodstock church of Christ, Georgia: Greg Garner (deacon) reports, “WCOC had three Bible studies this week. The Compassion Card group wrote nine cards and sent out 15 last week. The Prison Ministry is working on distributing 100 hard copies of Back to the Bible to the Dekalb Regional Youth Group Detention Center. We had 17 in our New Convert class. The Greeters Group reported five visitors this week.”

LaFayette church of Christ, Georgia: Jesse Teague (deacon) reports, “Group 2 met to send compassion cards Sunday evening. We had about 13 folks sending cards to six different people. Reid has had an ongoing Bible study with a lady, and that finally produced fruit. She obeyed the gospel, and we have a new sister in Christ!”

Warner Robins church of Christ, Georgia: Daniel Stearsman (preacher) reports, “We love seeing God at work in the hearts of young servants of the gospel. I am so proud of our young people and their zeal for the Lord! Take Jack, for instance. Jack recently visited Costa Rica to evangelize, knock doors, and preach the gospel. His girlfriend has been attending and recently spent several days bonding and reflecting spiritually at youth camp. On a recent Monday night, Jack, his girlfriend, and three of their peers descended on a visitor’s home to deliver coffee mugs and add a personal touch of thanks for attending. Jack’s girlfriend had not yet obeyed the gospel, but there she was spreading the word, greeting, and visiting. Late Thursday evening, Jack baptized his girlfriend into Christ. We love seeing the youth in faith, example, and love, spreading the gospel (1 Timothy 4:12). We praise God for His saving grace and the redemption He outpours! Last Saturday, 25 of our men gathered at Camp John Hope to engage in strategic planning for 2024. Besides some bonding, eating, and axe-throwing, it was an opportunity for the men to focus on progress strategies. We are thankful that we have hit the mark on most of our 16 goals for 2023. We look forward to using our strengths and minimizing our weaknesses to stay busy in the vineyard in 2024. Now we will pull together the information and set reasonable, measurable, and attainable marks. Inside and outside the building, we want to glorify God.”

Honolulu church of Christ, Hawaii: Lima Esene (preacher) reports, “We have two Bible studies ongoing. We are making changes to become more efficient and effective for the island’s way of life. The highlight of last week is seeing four souls obey the gospel after morning worship service. Jewel, who was baptized last year after studying with GBN, was studying the Bible with some of her teammates. After several studies, four of them made the decision to put on Christ. Praise God for the gospel and for soul winners! To God be the Glory! “Therefore, my beloved brethren, be steadfast, immovable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, knowing that your labor is not in vain in the Lord” (1 Corinthians 15:58 NKJV).

Jerseyville church of Christ, Illinois (remote): Jake Medford (preacher) reports, “Last week, we welcomed a new member who moved from another town and placed membership with us. She was impressed with the House-to-House model and is ready to work with us. She complimented the idea of giving out a gift bag, members welcoming her, and making her feel at home on her first visit. It is great to see training in action and hear the response. Other than that, we have been without a study for a couple of weeks, but that is not due to the lack of trying. We are still prospecting and are slowly approaching our 500-compassion card mark. We just put out our third large order of cards, and that continues to be our strong point. Members are inviting friends to study and worship. The growth and conversions will continue as we work the model!”

Beloit church of Christ, Kansas (remote): Dustin Dougherty (preacher) reports, “We are prospecting a handful of people, and there are some post-conversion studies currently ongoing. We have some names for compassion cards and will begin sending those soon. Tuesday night, we are having a Pie & Praise service, a night with singing, prayers, and Scripture readings as well as eating delicious pies and desserts that members are bringing. All glory to God, and thanks to Him for our many blessings.”

Central church of Christ, Paducah, Kentucky: Adam Faughn (preacher) reports, “We were thrilled to see Sherry Herline baptized into Christ Saturday evening! Sherry is visiting family who attend a sister congregation in our area for a few weeks, and she began a Bible study with one of our elders and his wife, who are friends of the family. They had to go through Back to the Bible quickly (all three lessons in about ten days), but Sherry was immersed after the third study. She will return home (in Iowa) after Thanksgiving, and we will help her find a church home. We are excited that another guest, who regularly comes from another congregation on Sunday evenings, is beginning a study with a neighbor. We know of one other online study and at least two in-person studies; we hope a third will start soon. We are praying for souls, and we hope that God receives all the glory for these good things.”

Paintsville church of Christ, Kentucky: Zach Collins (preacher) reports, “We are sending cards and praying for the lost! Each family member in Paintsville has been challenged to come up with a list of three individuals they would like to bring to Christ; they will pray daily for those. As a result of our recent efforts, we believe we might have a couple of new Bible studies on the horizon at our family in Paintsville, including the husband of one of our newest Christians! We ask for prayers that good hearts will be placed in our way and that we can help lost souls find the Way, the Truth, and the Life.”

La Plata church of Christ, Maryland (remote): Eric Sykes (regional trainer) reports, “We wrote 32 compassion cards this week. Five people attended the New Convert Bible study classes. We added two names to our congregation’s prospect list. We had to reschedule last week’s two back-to-back Bible lessons for one Bible study to this week. We have five people from the congregation’s compassion card list to visit this week. We appreciate all prayers as we strive to implement the Congregational Evangelism Model here in La Plata.”

Southside church of Christ, Grand Rapids, Michigan: Freddie Klein (preacher) reports, “We had a good week of studies, and our card group worked diligently to finish the cards for the month. We continued to discuss the role of joy in the Christian’s life in our Sunday morning sermon series. We focused on purpose and the will of God. We watched a video on hot, warm, and cold contacts in our Sunday evening hour with good discussion. The new mover bags are ready to be delivered. One of our members is so fired up for evangelism he is creating a specific board for all the doors he knocks. He plans to go to every house in the local area.”

Iuka church of Christ, Mississippi: Robert Wimbish (elder) reports, “First and foremost, we baptized another soul into Christ last Tuesday! Our ladies’ class has been teaching and encouraging our new sister for several weeks. Some studied with her outside of class and regularly spent time with her. She was baptized Tuesday morning, and the entire class stayed to rejoice. What a beautiful group of Christian women, setting an example for us all. One of our ladies who has worked with the local jail ministry for years, joined several other members and prepared a Thanksgiving supper last Saturday. They fed approximately 60 inmates and 15 employees. This was another good deed done not just to do good but to seek and save the lost. We currently have three Bible studies ongoing and expect them to result in wonderful outcomes. Yesterday, as in the previous two months, we had several new visitors at the morning service. Last night, one of our ladies commented during our weekly visitation/Bible study meeting, ‘This is working; I have never seen another program like it! Our congregation is changing; it does not look the same as it did just three months ago!’ We give all the credit to God.”

Foristell church of Christ, Missouri: Rod Jackson (elder) reports, “There are several new movers in our area. In our zip code, there are around 40 per month! We are working diligently to stay on top of these numbers and make sure all are aware of the church. We invite them to worship and to encourage deeper spiritual study. Sometimes, people are interested; sometimes, they are cold. We always want to leave the door open and show the love of Christ. We are visiting new movers weekly and continuing to encourage members to pray over their prospect bookmark. There are times when open doors are clear, and other times when we must learn to be patient. At all times, we are aware of the sense of urgency, and we are eager to share the love of Christ with those around us. We ask for continued prayers as we labor in His vineyard and ‘work the plan’ of evangelism in our area!”

Samford church of Christ, Steele, Missouri: Kyle Imel (deacon) reports, “We are continuing a study from our door-knocking campaign. We are going through Book 2 with Emma and her grandson. This past weekend, we had a gospel meeting with Joe Wells, and he re-emphasized the need to evangelize and do our part in the plan. We are looking forward to what God has in store for us.”

East Flushing church of Christ, New York (remote): Clarence Jenkins (preacher) reports, “We had one visitor who has been coming with his family. We request prayers that he may obey the gospel. A member who has not attended in a long time visited recently; we are praying that she will continue. We are prospecting Danny, a visitor who plans to revisit us this upcoming Lord’s Day. He appreciated the love he felt, even though he has received negative input about the church of Christ from others. We will continue to seek to encourage him and prepare him for the negativity. We appreciate all prayers.”

South Carthage church of Christ, North Carolina (remote): Randy Chambers (preacher) reports, “This past week our members conducted two studies involving those who have completed the BTTB series but have yet to obey. We had two studies using BTTB 3 that were paused because the prospects did not understand baptism. I am talking with the teacher on how to address this biblical matter.  We also had one study using BTTB, Book 1. The study went well, and the next study is scheduled for after the holiday. We had a congregational meeting today to address all concerns and to encourage us to stay the course, trust in the Lord, keep the faith, and do the work God has given us! We continue to train, pray, and encourage the program’s work so that God will give the increase!”

Streetsboro church of Christ, Ohio: Ralph Price (preacher) reports, “We continue to install the program.  We are in our second week of compassion cards. We are already getting positive feedback from some of the prospects on the list.”

Greenville church of Christ, Ohio: John McGiffin (preacher) reports, “Group 2 met Sunday for the first time. We completely re-invented our Thanksgiving Basket Giveaway. We found eight families that the school, church members, or others had referred for help over the holidays. In past years, we delivered baskets and only had one visitor who never returned. This year, they were required to come to the building for a pizza party. Each table consisted of a guest family and a host family from the congregation entrusted with information gathering and relationship building. Then we conducted a shortened service. The sermon instructed the families to ask if they saw anything that differentiated us from other religious groups, and we would answer questions. One person had an instant Bible study and then asked if they could get a ride to attend Wednesday Bible class. This was a first for us from this activity. Another family seems like a promising contact. Two families did not show, so we are dropping them from the December gifts program. We will conduct that program the same way.

“We have increased to 120 contacts. We still have seven continuing Bible studies. One is in a new study since one of last week’s students is transitioning into our New Converts Class. We reported a baptism three weeks into the program. This inspired another woman to ask her neighbor for a study, even though she had not conducted a study before. They are scheduled for Tuesday for a study using Back to the Bible. Attached are pictures from the Thanksgiving basket giveaway and compassion card campaign. The men have discussed re-directing our Disaster Relief Funds to help locally with fire victims, tornado victims, and other problems. Recently, we witnessed politicians delivering water while handing out business cards and felt we could use a similar plan to evangelize locally.”

New Concord church of Christ, Ohio: Terry Townsend (preacher) reports, “We have completed Week 4 of HTHSOE Training. Things are going well! We have set up the Evangelism Table. We will begin mailing out compassion cards Monday. Our coordinators in charge of the cards have worked tirelessly organizing and formatting everything (I hope to send pictures of how we are doing these things in the next two weeks). Two in-home Bible Studies were set up the past three days. One of our elders and his wife will begin Back to the Bible Lesson 1 this week with a couple who have been visiting with us the last three Sundays. Another study was set up with a man who called the church building last week simply asking for spiritual direction. I followed up with him and asked the following questions: “What do you know about the churches of Christ?” and “Would you like to know more about us?” The study was scheduled for next week.

“We had our congregational Community Thanksgiving Lunch Saturday. From that, we made 35 contacts. Cards will be sent to every one of these folks. In two or three weeks, when we begin our Mission Monday, teams will be sent to make personal visits with these contacts. On Sunday morning, we gave a new Bible to the young lady who was baptized last Sunday. Folks are beginning to get excited about this good work, especially as they see some fruit from this labor!”

Coweta church of Christ, Oklahoma: Keno Shrum (elder) reports, “After Thanksgiving, we will start reaching out to those who will finish receiving cards this week. Our members are doing a great job of maintaining contact lists and prospecting. As a result, we have a steady stream of new contacts and addresses coming in, to mail compassion cards to those in our New Convert class, which is continuing to go well. I think that with BTTB studies, followed up by the New Convert studies and mentoring, we, as the church nationwide, will see the ‘back door’ loss of new converts slowing down. It is so important for people to understand the commitment they are making before they are baptized. Proper understanding combined with a good mentorship is what it will take to increase retention, and this is what we are seeing in our congregation here in Coweta. As always, I am significantly encouraged by the weekly RTL reports and am praying for every congregation that is evangelizing and spreading the gospel!”

Sullivan Village church of Christ, Lawton, Oklahoma: Steven Hill (preacher) reports, “We had a record number of visitors at services, and everyone interacted and made them feel very welcome. This was the first day we handed out visitor bags; it was perfect because we had many visitors to receive them. The atmosphere is different now that we are all hyper-focused on evangelism and winning souls. There is a much greater concentrated effort being put forth by the congregation to get to know our visitors and to volunteer to help with whatever comes up. This congregation is slowly morphing into an evangelistic organism. The congregation has been divided up into three teams for compassion card writing. Yesterday after services, we kicked the compassion card ministry into high gear. Team 1 met for the first time, and everyone was writing cards. We were writing to our contacts as well as recent visitors. We will update the visitor list and keep track of everyone who visits; they will receive multiple cards every other day for about three weeks. We wrote 270 cards as 20 people stayed to work. We received our first new movers list the other day and are ready to make visits. I am personally looking forward to being involved in this. The elders are delegating, and it is exciting to watch. We have members involved in various aspects and at every stage of the process, and it is a clear pattern of Ephesians 4:12-16 in action. We are also discovering the unique strengths of some members that we had yet to learn about before this effort (Romans 12:6-8). One of the elders stood in the pulpit yesterday and said that this evangelism program has breathed new zeal into him. He said he had not felt this excited and on fire for doing the Lord’s work in a long time. Praise God for the One Mission that HE has given us (Matthew 28:18-20).”

York church of Christ, Pennsylvania: Mark Raschke (deacon) reports, “We sent a second round of compassion cards to a coworker suffering from some major medical issues. We also mailed invitations to our prospects for our upcoming monthly potluck fellowship meal. We have found this an effective way to get prospects to visit our services. On Wednesday evening, a visitor attended after receiving the House to House, Heart to Heart publication in their mailbox. He seemed very interested in ‘interviewing’ us but did not want to take a visitor bag or leave his contact information with us.”

Broadtop church of Christ, Warfordsburg, Pennsylvania (remote): Ed Howe (member) reports, “We have set up our Evangelism Table (picture attached), and we are ready to use it. We are conducting follow-up training for two new converts who responded last month. We are praying for their growth in the Lord.”

Union church of Christ, South Carolina (remote): Terry Hale (preacher) reports, “We are continuing our training of special forces. One group is meeting today to put together visitor bags and role-play in training as well as mailing out daily compassion cards.”

Hillsboro church of Christ, Tennessee: Chris Sliger (member) reports, “On November 18, we knocked on ten more doors for our New Movers program. Of those 10, we contacted three families who seem receptive to cards/further discussion. One of the families (a young couple) visited with us last Sunday! In addition to those three families, elder Roy Carroll contacted the new preacher of the First Baptist Church in nearby Manchester. The preacher is receptive to a Bible study in the works. We will continue to send cards to all contacts and vigorously pursue those who are searching.”

McKenzie church of Christ, Tennessee: Randy McCadams (elder) reports, “The groups are in their second week of mailing out cards for November. We included several names from our Community Kitchen, which has proved to be a good source of contacts for us. From the participants of the November kitchen, one family has visited our services for three weeks running. This is encouraging. We are currently brainstorming ways to mail cards to contacts generated from our classrooms during the first week they are reported. For example, when a class member announces a neighbor needs prayers or something similar for an immediate personal problem, we do not want to wait until the new cycle of card mailouts to get cards out to these people. Blessings to all.”

Southern Hills church of Christ, Franklin, Tennessee: Lee Glasscock (elder) reports, “Our members saw the evangelism table for the first time on Sunday. Two nights before this, we witnessed the baptism of a new brother in Christ, Tai Carter. His studies in the three books of Back to the Bible led him to be baptized into Christ. More studies have started with neighbors and friends. We started the personal bookmark on Sunday and advanced some into contacts for the compassion card efforts. Additional encouragement to our high school class was made for their lists. Training of our compassion card team captains, along with the final organization of all of the cards, happened Sunday night after services with the coordinators. Our first set of compassion cards will be mailed out in the upcoming weeks. Our new converts class is being organized to start in the new quarter of December. We conducted a post-evangelism seminar and congregational survey to understand better the areas people wanted or desired to be a part of based on skill sets and abilities.

“The following is a report from Sister Kendra Rodgers: ‘I had my first Bible study with my neighbor tonight. We are going to do the second one this weekend. I told her we were working on talking to people about God, and I could practice with her. She was completely on the same page with Lesson 1 (Baptist background). Seeing how that translates to Lesson 2 on worship will be interesting. Another blessing was that her husband listened in the HUGE background! He had been very resistant to religion since we have known them. We are planting seeds. Thanks for your work and for pushing us off the diving board into the deep end. That and the Back to the Bible lessons made a huge difference!’”

Covington church of Christ, Tennessee: Wayne Dalrymple (elder) reports, “We had several visitors, some of whom we have been prospecting. We hope to transition to a Bible study soon. My study with Doresha continued last Wednesday. We began Book 2 of BTTB. We hope to complete it this week. Last Friday, Jeff and Jennifer (our youth minister and his wife) took several dozen boxes of food that we still had left from tornado relief to one of our local schools and gave them away to some needy families. We hope to get some contacts from that as well. This week, I will be reaching out to several of our recent contacts to try to prospect them.”

East Main church of Christ, Murfreesboro, Tennessee: Brad Rowley (elder) reports, “Last week, our compassion card team wrote 28 cards. We had three ongoing Bible studies last week, and we   completed three more follow-up visits. From one of these visits Mark Isenberg set up a new Bible study. The contact was originally from our backpack drive. The New Movers ticket has succeeded; it is more efficient than the printed list we had in the past. Jon Mitchell has been working with one of our visitors for several weeks. He should be at services next Sunday. We are praying this will lead to another new study. Our new convert class continues to be well attended.”

New Union church of Christ, Manchester, Tennessee: Paul Fultz (elder) reports, “We had six visitors from the community and recorded their names and addresses. Card Team 3 wrote 40 compassion cards. Several New Mover Baskets were delivered. Last week members made six follow-up visits and contacts, not counting phone calls and texts.”

Bridgewater church of Christ, Katy, Texas: Doug Suggs (member) reports, “We just finished a Gospel Meeting with Allen Webster. Our theme for the meeting was Reigniting the Fire. Lessons encouraged us to be zealous for God’s word and His work. On the final evening, Allen spoke on evangelism. After the meeting, I encouraged those present to get another bookmark and write names for contacts. Contacts are important, and we will never have too many. Speaking of contacts, one of our members who is excited about saving souls is Andre Washington. He has given us many contacts. One person he spoke to was a Xfinity representative named Thyrone. Sunday, he came with his wife, Danielle, and her mother to our worship service. We had sent him compassion cards, and they just wanted to come check us out. Andre talked with him, and he said he would be back to Bible class and worship next Sunday. Andre plans to do a Bible study with him. His mother, who was with them, has some roots in Central America and speaks fluent Spanish. One of our Spanish members spoke to her in her native language and will be seeking to have a study with her soon. We appreciate prayers for these souls.

“We also received our first New Movers list from HTH. We now have a larger group to contact, and we pray that we will get contacts, prospects, and new members to the family in Bridgewater. One of our card groups met to write compassion cards Sunday evening. We have other things we are working on and hope to have all implemented and completed by the first of the year. Things are looking up for the cause of Christ in our corner of the world. We appreciate all prayers.”

Crosby church of Christ, Houston, Texas (remote): Jon Wheeler (elder) reports, “Another one of our Action teams met after services Sunday morning and introduced compassion cards. Several more will be sent this week. We had one person attend this past Sunday that we feel was a result of the previous week’s cards. We had a leadership meeting on Wednesday and went over the HTHSOE checklist. Good progress has been made, but there is so much more to do!”

Southwest church of Christ, Austin, Texas: John Garza (regional trainer) reports, “Here at the Southwest congregation, we continue to work, even as the holiday season approaches.  We have multiple ongoing studies, and we succeeded in a compassion card effort. One woman who received cards was touched, and she visited to see who we are; she loved the worship. Two of our members took her out to eat. She plans to be back with us this week. With the new year coming upon us, we are planning to fine-tune the machine. With a variety of sermons, we look forward to beginning the new year with our members reconsidering who is on their bookmarks. We will improve our compassion card program and utilize it in our Mission Mondays. We are furthering our House-to-House reach for our New Movers program, and I will be training another group of members who desire to be soul winners. In addition to this, Jesse Stuart, Raoul Ferris (Evangelists), and I began planning with Austin Armagost the future evangelism program of Johnson City, Texas. Because the congregation has only about a dozen Christians, and they need help. We plan to help them by teaching, demonstrating, and utilizing the resources we have in our works. To God be the glory in all works of the kingdom!”

Northern Oaks church of Christ, San Antonio, Texas: Mel Hutzler (elder) reports, “We have a few Bible studies going on that are slowly moving. Our New Convert’s class is going very well and growing. Mail-out continues but cards have slowed down. There are still a few changes we need to make to increase opportunities for prospecting and Bible studies. It is wonderful to see so many members seeking Bible studies and trying to get to know others.”

Canyon Lake church of Christ, Texas (remote): Jesse Stuart and Raoul Ferris (evangelists) report, “We were excited this last week because two people whom we attempted to reach more than three months ago through door-knocking and compassion cards finally came to fruition. With one, we could set up a Bible study, and we completed Book 1 of BTTB. We were thankful to have Wanita Faulkner and Misty Ferris with Raoul Ferris during the study. The lady is an older lady and Wanita and Misty connected with her. Because of this, Wanita was able to invite her to ladies’ Bible class, and Misty invited her to midweek Bible study. She accepted both invitations. The other contact called us and told us that he is a single father and a full-time truck driver. We hope to have a meal together next time he is off the road. We were very encouraged by this! Sometimes it takes time.

“We had a baptism this week. Desiree Diaz was baptized into Christ after making her public confession. She has been studying with Will Armagost and on her own. We saw her go to the evangelism table many months ago, where she took many resources. We want to encourage others to keep and maintain an evangelism table because it works! We continue to work on the model; we have had five baptisms since August. We appreciate all prayers.”

Wheeler church of Christ, Texas: Garrett English (preacher) reports, “I talked with the elders about getting the compassion card groups going, and we plan to get the teams together the week after Thanksgiving. Our church Thanksgiving meal had a few visitors, whom we will begin prospecting.”

Granbury Street church of Christ, Cleburne, Texas: Ryan Cowan (deacon) reports, “On Monday night, Tom Humphrey was baptized into Christ. Tom had contacted Granbury Street several months ago, seeking more information about the church. His phone call prompted our team of willing evangelists to engage in a study. Tom began attending our Sunday morning Foundations class and began a personal Bible study with member Will Cammack. God’s providence is at work, and we are so pleased to have a new brother in Christ. We have continued to tie our benevolence/community service efforts to evangelism directly. For example, when we are contacted for financial help, we combine our assistance with a Bible study. One strategy that has proven successful is asking the prospect to be at the building at 9:00 a.m. on Sunday mornings. Then we begin a Does It Matter study with a member during the Bible class hour. The prospect then attends worship. A pizza lunch is provided later as the Bible study continues after the worship hour. Cody Grinnell and his wife Angel have done an excellent job carrying out these efforts with those seeking benevolence.”

Graceton church of Christ, Diana, Texas: Johnny Willeford (elder) reports, “Saturday, we set up a booth at our local trade’s day. We had a good experience by meeting several who attended the event. We were able to pass out literature about the church and the gospel. We were able to get the contact information of several individuals. Some will be receiving compassion cards this week. On Sunday, we had five visitors. Group A signed 103 compassion cards for 12 people. Our prayers are with all our brothers and sisters in churches everywhere as they spread God’s word to the lost.”

Marlon Retana (Regional Trainer): “I had a message from the brother in Costa Rica who received BTTB a few weeks ago. He wanted to let me know that he and his congregation are thankful for more materials, as the ones they received in June during our seminar were almost gone. I hope to hear more good news from them.”

NOTE: These reports are from Christians and congregations enrolled in the House to House/Heart to Heart School of Evangelism. These emails are sent to teach and provoke one another to remain focused on the mission of Christ. Each week, we share several reports and highlight one with more details. We hope you enjoy reading them.
